I was sat with my arm around my girlfriend. She was beautiful in every way possible, both inside and out. We were sat watching a TV show, but I wasn't watching the moving pictures upon the screen. I was thinking about my four year relationship with the girl of my dreams ; Irma. She was a model and, in my opinion, the most stunning woman in the World. the atmosphere was calm, and everything seemed peaceful. It was definitely unexpected when her ring tone pierced the quiet. Quickly, she leaped off of the couch and ran over to where her phone was. She sighed as she looked at the number on the screen, but she answered the call. "Yes?" She said in her sweet voice. She was on the phone, so I obviously couldn't hear the conversation on the other side. I sat more upright and watched her with pure love in my eyes. "I can't do it now." She said down the phone to the caller. That made me think. What was she talking about? Was she keeping secrets from me? I was probably exaggerating, but I had thought our relationship was purely about trust. I decided that I was being too protective. "I'll do it now. I'll call you back later." There was a little pause. "Love you too." After hearing the final two words, my heart began to ache with jealousy. She hung up and carefully placed the phone back down onto the table. She took a deep breath before turning to me. "Daniel, we need to talk." Whenever someone called me by my full name, it made me feel uneasy. It usually meant a dilemma was nearing.
"Who was that on the phone?" I asked. I tried to keep my voice level, but it seemed to shake a little. I had an idea of what was going on, but I wanted confirmation before I confronted her about it.
"Daniel, I'm so sorry." She slowly walked over to me. She sat next to me and took my hands in hers. "You didn't answer my question." I felt a pit of anger within me begin to bubble. I didn't want to loose my temper with her, but I was afraid I was about to.
"It was Simon." She didn't seem to be giving much away.
"Why did he call you? What was the conversation about?" she didn't look at me. Looked down at our hands.
"I'm sorry, Daniel. I'm not in love with you anymore." I felt a pain in my chest. It felt as though my insides were burning.
"What?" It wouldn't sink into my head completely. She looked at me then and her eyes were watery, as though she was about to cry.
"I'm in love with Simon." My heart smashed then. After this relationship had lasted four years, she tells me that she loves someone else?
"How long?" I asked. I tried to keep my voice level, so she couldn't hear the pain.
"Two months. I'm sorry, Daniel." She got up and let go of my hands. I didn't look at her. I continued to look into the distance. She walked over to where her phone and bag were, picked them up and began to walk towards the door. She turned to me. "Daniel, look at me." Slowly, I turned to look at her. Tears were gently rolling down her face. She looked so vulnerable. "I didn't mean for you to get hurt." She turned around as she sobbed and she walked out of the door. It slammed behind her. I sat in silence from then on. I was sat alone. She had just walked out of the relationship into a new one, while I was left there. The night had started off so simply, but by the end, it was a catastrophe. I heard my phone ring, but I ignored it. The last thing I needed now was company. So I sat there, thinking about what went wrong.
