Chapter 2
I couldn’t have Peter Huff knowing who I was. And I didn’t like how easy it was for him to figure it out. Let me tell you about Peter Huff. He was tall, blond, played lacrosse, and had the bluest eyes I’d ever seen. I met him in 8th grade, and he was the first boy to ever like me back. This made me really obsessive about him, and pretty soon that friendship crumbled. In the brief time it lasted, he got to know me better than anyone ever did, and he still knew me now, even though I had gone through such a drastic transformation, which was why I was so scared.
By lunchtime, everyone at Oakwood High knew who I was. I’ve had hundreds of introductions that day, as it seemed like everyone wanted to meet me, and I had a whole bunch of people sitting with me at lunch. The first day of school was going great so far. As I was listening to some cheerleader telling me about her shopping trip, I saw Peter walking into the lunchroom, out of the corner of my eye; he was accompanied by his lacrosse buddies, Connor and Will (both seniors like Peter), so I waved them over.
“Hey boys, I don’t think I’ve met you yet, I’m Cassandra. And you are?”
“I’m Connor,” he bent down to kiss my hand, “And you have the sexiest British accent ever.”
Will shoved him out of the way, “Sorry for the perv. I’m Will, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Douchebag.” Connor muttered.
“Oh the pleasure is all mine,” I batted my eyelashes seductively at both the boys.
Peter coughed, attempting to cover his laugh.
I swirled around to face him, my face full of mock concern, “You alright there, dear?”
“U-uhh yes I’m f-fine.” He stammered while turning beet red.
I laughed, “I’m glad, wouldn’t want a hunk like you being sick for the party I’m throwing tonight now, would I?”
“You’re having a party tonight?” Connor’s eyes lit up. “Are you inviting us?”
“Of course, silly. Everyone I’ve met today is invited!” I said enthusiastically. “Oh but there’s a catch.”
“What’s that?” a cheerleader worried.
I grinned mischievously, “Everyone has to come either in board shorts, or a bikini... Pool party!”
Almost immediately the entire cafeteria began buzzing about my party, with the exception of Peter Huff. He was still red and he was staring at me as if I was a strange creature he had never met before, so I winked at him before slinking away with some girls to plan the impromptu party. Oh I planned on making this an unforgettable night, alright. After tonight, all the boys would be chasing after me, and poor little Peter wouldn’t dare leak my secret.
