It was a beautifully clear night. A fiery ginger and white tom, a brown tabby she-cat, a black she-cat and a silver-grey tom with rippling stripes sat in a circle in the middle of a windswept moor. An argument was in full flow, breath crystallising in great billowing clouds. "Thunder are you sure?" meowed the brown tabby, "If it went wrong, we will put our clans in even more danger!" The black she-cat and the silver tom nodded. "It would be catastrophic," agreed the tom "Wind is right."
"Rogue spirits would cause infinite chaos and damage to our clans" stated the black she cat "I agree with River and Wind"
"I know it could go terribly wrong," said Thunder calmly "But it is more likely to go right. Besides, the Clans need a guardian. Dark times are coming to the forest, they need a guide" Reluctantly, the other cats gave in. "All right Thunder, proceed." said Wind. And with that, Thunder reached up to the brilliant map of stars above and snagged a particularly bright star with his claws."I, Wind, founder of Windclan, give you the speed of the diving falcon and the vigilance of the shrewd rabbit." The star pulsed and shot out snaking white tendrils, forming a pale, shimmering outline of a cat.
"I, Shadow, former of Shadowclan, give you the cunningness of the sly fox and the fierceness of the female badger." More tendrils shot out, forming a glistening skeleton and organs inside the starry web.
"I, River, founder of Riverclan, give you the patience of the hunting heron and the caring of a queen to her kits." This time, a silvery blue and gold tabby pelt twinkled into existence.
"I, Thunder, founder of Thunderclan, give you the courage and pride of the noble lion and the wisdom of the solitary owl."
With the final declaration, the outline solidified, a faint glow surrounding the outline of a graceful, yet powerfully built short haired tabby. Its eyes snapped open, pupiless and gold.
"What is your wont for me, summoner?
Thunder stepped forwards "You will protect the Clans from threat."
The spirit dipped its head in understanding. "Is that all?"
"Yes." And in solemn silence the leaders watched as the spirit turned. It took a few paces, paused and disappeared in a swirl of orange light.
