My life: Charlie's story

chapter seventeen

...A few months have passed and now it is December and I'm finally ten! I couldn't believe it when it came to the day...

20th December...
The room felt warmer and brighter even though there was some snow outside, I sat up in my bed and remembered what day it was. I stroked Jacobo who was on my bed, walked over to my wardrobe and got dressed.
I walked down stairs and went into the dining room which was lit up with the glass chandelier even tho it was already bright enough. "Happy birthday Charlie!!"
I looked at everyone gathered at the table and smiled, my mother, Isa, Alma, Maddison and Beatrice walked over and hugged me one by one. My mother walked back over to the white cake and started to cut it and placing the slices on plates.

That was 3 months ago but it still feels like yesterday and my nightmares have stopped finally. Spring is nearly here!! And now I have a new best friend too, Ruby, Sophia's younger sister. I think we will be best friends for ever!
"Charlie come on I'm leaving!" Maddison calls from down stairs, I run out of my room and down the stairs.
We walk out of the door "Say hi to Sophia for me" mother says standing in the doorway, Maddison nods,"we will" mother closes the door and we make our way down the cobble stone path towards the: Titanic, black iron gate, Maddison pulled the latch up and pulled the gate open. We walked down the path that leads to the village. The trees around us seemed to stretch up to the sky and bend at the top ready to grab us. The path was dark nearly like a tunnel and at the end of the tunnel a light, the light of freedom. But the trees started to blossom pink flowers so soon this tunnel would be brighter than now.

We finally go out of the: dark, tree tunnel and i felt free and more relaxed I could see the church tower and all the cottages that looked so small I felt like a giant. We walked down the hill getting closer to the village.

The village square was busy on Sundays because of the market, people come from nearly every village in this area, according to my father. Stall holders were shouting to get peoples attention. People were selling fruit, vegetables, ceramic pots, flowers, clothes and cloth and even toys. Wooden hand made toys. I stopped between the flower stall and the wooden toy stall. Maddison noticed and walked over to me. I looked back and forth between the two stalls. "Charlie?"
My eyes stopped on a beautiful red rose, "Can i get that rose Maddison?" She looked at me confused but nodded and gave me some money. I walked over to the stall and bought the red rose.

We walked over to a cottage, there were blue and red flowers in pots, and cream curtains in the windows. Maddison walked over to the oak door and knocked.
The door opened and Sophia stood in the doorway and smiled, "Hello" her and Maddison started talking and I saw Ruby stand beside Sophia, she noticed me and walked over to me. "Hello" she smiled her blue eyes sparkling, "Hello, this is for you," I replied handing her the rose. "Okay, thank you it's really pretty." She smiled and hugged me.
"Awh" Sophia and Maddison said in unison. "You better come in its getting pretty cold now." Sophia said as Ruby let go of me, smiling we both walked inside followed by Sophia and my sister.
