As Eren's calm, forever-resting face fades from my vision, so does the light of my hope for humanity. I sit up groggily in my bed, glad it was only a nightmare. The morning light pours through the closed curtains in my room. What time is it? I ask myself, glancing over at the clock beside my bed. 7 o'clock. Time to wake up the brats. I get up slowly and get dressed, dreading the day already. I run into Commander Erwin on my way out of my room.

"Good morning Levi." He says. I grunt in reply. "I'll wake up the cadets. You should check on your 'dog'. He might have separation anxiety."

I glare at him as he walks away, looking pleased with himself. I drag my feet down the hall to the room that I visit every day. He's still asleep, curled up in a ball. Eren Jaeger. My 'dog', as Erwin calls him. I'm in charge of making sure he stays alive. One hell of a job, let me tell ya. He's a suicide maniac. Plus, he sucks at cleaning.

I tap on the already open door.

"Oi. Brat. Wake up." I say. Eren shifts a little. "I know you're awake so I'd suggest you get your ass out of bed." He sits up and yawns. I roll my eyes, slightly irritated. "Meet me in the dining hall whenever you finish your stretches, Jaeger." With that, I leave to go make myself some tea so that I won't rip someone's head off later.

I walk into the abandoned dining hall and make some tea just as Eren walks in. I look over and he salutes me.

"I'm here, sir." He says, his voice heavy with sleep.

"No shit." I snap. He ignores my comment and gets a cup of tea for himself before sitting across from me at the table. "Oi, you seem tired."

"I am, sir. Very tired." He says, sipping his tea.

"Why is that?" I ask, not really caring about his answer.

"Late night, I guess." I sip my tea and watch Eren. His turquoise eyes are focused on his cup. He looks up. "Why did you want to see me?"

"Commander Erwin is leading another mission outside the walls. With the female Titan out of the way, we have a clearer shot at getting to Shiganshina." I explain. He nods. "We leave at 9. Be back here by 8:45 sharp." I pause. "Any questions?"

"When you say that Erwin is leading another mission, who else is going? I mean, you saw what happened last time. Who's gonna go out besides us?" He asks.

"No one. Just us." Worry flickers across the boy's face before he stands up and runs out of the room, leaving his dirty cup on the table. "Brat." I mumble, cleaning up the mess.

Time passes quickly after that and around 8, brats flood the dining hall for breakfast. There aren't as many of them as I thought. I never really thought about how many of them died when the female Titan came.

8:30 comes and goes and takes the remaining brats with it. It's about 8:43 when I realize that Erwin hasn't showed up yet, but I assume he's just taking an extra long pre-mission shit.

Suddenly, Eren bursts into the room.

"Right on time, Jaeger. I'm slightly impressed." He smiles, looking proud of himself. I decide to ask, "Where's Erwin?"

"I don't know, sir. I thought he was here with you already. I could go look for him, if you'd like."

"No." I say a little too fast. "No, we'll wait."

Eren walks over to me.

"Sir? May I ask you something?"

"You just did, but go ahead." He hesitates.
