Pizza Hut Donates to Local HomelessIt's safe to say that most people like to eat pizza. Did you know that Pizza Hut has a great charity program. It is called the Harvest Program. Any pizza left on their bar when they change shifts gets stored away until a member from Pleasant Valley Seniors, Community Kitchen, or Milford Center's food pantry comes to collect the food. The Gables used to be involved in this program as well. These helpers pick up the pizza from Pizza Hut on West 5th Street. For absolutely free they then distribute the pizza to people who cannot provide for themselves or their family.
As sad as it may be we have many Marysville families that have similar situations to these people. Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio says there was 12,325 total homeless by Continuum of Care in Ohio as of 2013. Continuum of Care is a concept involving a system that guides and tracks patients over time through a comprehensive array of health services spanning all levels and intensity of care. There were 4,714 total family homelessness by Continuum of Care. Along with 1,064 total veteran homelessness by Continuum of Care in Ohio as of 2013. As you can see there were many many homeless people in the year 2013.These are the people Pizza Hut is trying to help.
Not every Pizza Hut does this. Tattu Floyd, who has been with Pizza Hut for almost 20 years, said, "Just our company. Not Burger King, no other pizza places." Floyd reaches out to places such as The Gables and Windsor Manor. She is in charge of the program at Pizza Hut.
A great way for us to get involved is to donate to our local Food Pantry, or to volunteer at local homeless shelters.Delaney Marascio
