You got very little sleep that night. You kept thinking about what you saw in your living room. Arthur's pained, disfigured face haunted your mind. He looked like he'd been suffering for years. You never wanted to see his face like that again.

After a total four hours of sleep, you dragged yourself out of bed, showered, and got a quick breakfast. Then you gently placed Arthur in your purse and headed out to the craft store.

You wandered the isles of the store with a basket at hand, trying to find what would be best for Arthur's needs. You pulled him out of your purse and held him in front of you, noting what needed fixing.

"Hmm...Hair" you thought aloud. You wandered around a bit until you found it; the perfect fix! It was some brilliantly blonde faux fur. It was soft to the touch and looked just like real hair. You thought it would be a vast improvement over the frayed, dirty yellow yarn that he had on his head now.

"...Eyes." You searched through several shelves of buttons, browsing through a multitude of different colors and shapes. Your eyes were caught by a little glimmer from the very bottom shelf. They landed on a tiny bag of little, round, emerald colored buttons that shimmered in the light. You smiled and placed them in the basket. 'These will match his vest perfectly.' You thought.

"Hmmm...What else do you need Arthur?" you said aloud, pulling him from your purse. You again noted how limp he felt in your hands. "Right; stuffing." You picked up a couple bags of soft, fluffy, white stuffing, not knowing exactly how much he needed.

You looked at him again, trying to think of anything else you'd need. You're eyes fell to his crooked mouth. "Thread!" you exclaimed loudly. You got a spool of bright, red thread that you thought was similar to what he had as well as some yellow thread for sewing on his hair, some black thread for his eyes, tan for his pants, green and white for his torso, and some pale thread for any skin repairs. You also got some new needles, a box of pins, and a new pair of scissors that would allow careful and precise work.

After making your purchases, you rushed home to get to work. The first thing you did was to, as carefully as possible, remove his eyes, mouth, and hair. "I'm sorry if this hurts", you said, still not sure if he could hear you or not "But I promise I'm only trying to help." You pulled off the doll's little clothes, leaving only his little pink fabric body. Then, using your new scissors, you carefully cut open his right arm and both of his legs along the thread. You removed the old, brown, disgusting fluff that was inside his body and limbs using a pair of tweezers and replaced it with the new, white, fluffy stuffing you bought. Then, with the pale thread, you sewed him back up, making sure not to leave a thread out of place.

You turned your attention from the body and looked at his clothes. They were dirty, torn, and fraying at their bottoms. You cursed yourself a bit for not getting anything to make new clothes, but decided to shrug it off for now. You scooped up the clothes and Arthur and dropped all of them into the washing machine, figuring that it would be the first bath Arthur's had in a long time. Once he was out of the washer, you sent him through a dry cycle. When he came out, his little body was so warm and welcoming that you couldn't resist giving him a hug, feeling the new fluff inside him making him feel so soft and cuddly, like a doll should be. Once you were done smothering him, you held him in front of you and admired how clean he looked after a simple wash. "I can't believe Alfred never even bothered to clean you!" you said.

Using the thread, you made a few quick touch-ups to his clothes before replacing them on his body. Next, you took the emerald buttons and the black thread and skillfully sewed them in, making sure they were equal distance and the same height on his face. With the red thread, you sewed on a ruby red mouth with curved into a pleasant little smile.
Finally, you cut a patch of the blonde faux fur that fit his head just right and sewed it in with the yellow thread. The new hair sat on his head kind of like bed head, but you thought it fitted him well.

Taking a deep breath in, you sat back in your seat and held Arthur up to admire your work. It was almost impossible to tell that this was the same doll you got yesterday. It looked like you had gotten it right off the shelf at the store. Every little stain and mark was gone and replaced with flawless features. You turned to look at the clock; 11:38 P.M. Won't be long now.

You waited for midnight to come, the same time as the night before when he first came to life. This time, you sat him on the windowsill so he sat in perfect view of the moonlight. Right when the clock changed from 11:59 to 12:00, in a sudden, quick flash of light, the doll was gone. THUMP! The same sound you heard before that woke you from your sleep. Arthur had fallen to his knees again. This time though, he was able to stand up with the greatest of ease. He opened his eyes and looked at himself a bit. You couldn't help but stare as well.

He was brilliant! Absolutely handsome! His hair, instead of half gone and dirty and stained, was now a brilliant blond like the faux fur you replaced it with. His skin was now a smooth, perfect peach color. His eyes shone and glowed like stars and were the loveliest shade of emerald green imaginable. His mouth was no longer as intimidating as it had been; instead, his lips were perfectly formed and looked absolutely inviting. You could also see how well the stuffing had worked; while he was still very slender and sleek, you could see he had some toned muscles on his arms and legs. And now that he stood upright you saw that he actually stood at least a head taller than you.

"W-well?" You asked. "How do you feel?"

"... Wonderful." He finally said with a thick English accent.

"It doesn't hurt at all, does it?"

"No, love. This is the best I've felt in years!"

He ran over and pulled you into a warm, tender hug "Thank you...Thank you so much!" Tears of joy began to flood from his eyes. This time, instead of blood red like before, they were clean and crystal clear.

"Arthur..." you hesitated "Can...can I ask you a question?"

"Anything. It's only the very least I could do for what you've done for me."

"What happened to you? I mean, how did you end up like this? A doll that comes to life in the moonlight?"

Arthur let go of you and turned his gaze to the floor. He let out a long sigh.

"It's a long story, love."
