Prologue

Anna

Anna couldn't see where she was going. It was too dark.

She was on 57th Lower Street in New York. At least she thought she was on that street. She tried to squint at the map she was holding in her hands. She had gotten it in a tourist store a couple of streets down the road. That was before the sky had started to darken, and all the lights from all the buildings and skyscrapers lit up.

She knew it was dangerous being out in an unknown street in New York alone in the middle of the night. New York is a huge city. You could easily get lost, or become trapped in a dark, tiny alley with smokers and rebellious high school students who tagged buildings and was doing drugs.

Anna was looking at her map again when she realised she was approaching a building as big as her house back home. The windows had old-school curtains and looked like small, cheap hotel rooms. She looked up from the map to try too see if there was a sign on the building that revealed what it was. While she was looking for some kind of sign or words that was attached to the hotel, the map in her hands wriggled itself out off her hands in a windblow. It flew across the road and landed in the middle of the driveway. Anna sighed, and started walking into the road to get her map. She needed it to know where Linden Hotel were.

When she was halfway through on the way to the map, she heard a sound. She turned around just in time to see two lights from a car coming towards her in a terrifyingly high speed. She screamed, but there was no way she would make it back to the other end of the road fast enough. The car was too fast. Suddenly someone grabbed Anna from behind. She got dragged out of the road by her jacket. When she were safe on the side of the street she came from, she put her hands on her knees, breathing hard. She was facing the road when the car drove shockingly close past her. She hadn't breathed for a second. She was panting and trying to catch her breath. Her eyes were still big and scared when she turned around to meet her rescuer. The person hid his face in a hoodie and a cap. His eyes were covered by some black shades. Anna was pretty sure it was a boy after seeing his jeans laying low on his hips. Girls doesn't were jeans like that. The guy held out a hand for her to take it. "You okay?" He asked in concern. Anna squinted at him. His voice was somehow vaguely familiar. Her hand was shaking when she held it out, and shook it with his. "I'm fine." She said, her voice shaky. By the look on his face it didn't seem like he believed her. "That's what they always say." He said it casually but Anna could hear the bit of edginess in his words. She raised her hands like you do when you surrender an attack by armed people. "I'm serious. I'm okay, I'm not hurt." She pointed this out by pushing up her sleeves, showing him her unharmed arms. He snorted, but there was a tiny smile on his face. "What are you doing here out in the middle of the night all alone?" Anna chuckled 'cause he had just pointed out what she already knew and had told herself earlier. "I'm kinda looking for a hotel. Linden Hotel? You know where that is?" The boy shook his head. "That's what I thought."

The wind was catching up again. The wind only grew stronger after each second. A windblow catched us and the hood of the boy's jacket blew off from his head. Anna stopped breathing for a second. She gasped and was about to say something when the guy covered her mouth with his hand. "If I take off my shades and you see who I am, you promise you won't scream?" His grip was tense. Anna nodded. No problem. She had known who he was from the moment his hood blew off his head. But she knew she couldn't promise not to scream. It was to much to ask. The guy nodded slowly and looked at her as he was clarifying wether or not she was able to be trusted. Slowly he released his grip on her mouth and took his shades off. Anna couldn't help but gasp. She had to be dreaming. These kinds of things doesn't happen to her. They only happened in movies. They were looking at each other awkwardly, but still Anna was amazed by who she had been saved by.

It was Justin Bieber.
