Prologue
Unknown POV
Run. That is all I could think. Don't look back. Don't think about what they said and why they said it. Run through these alleys, past the old druggies and whatever you do don't look back.
If you look back it will all flood in and then you won't be able to move.
As I thought this, I did not look around, I was careless. I should have remembered we are hunted always and when we are not completely alert we find ourselves in situations we cannot get out of. Just like this one.
Before I could even react, before I could realise that I had hit a dead end I was grabbed roughly by two pairs of hands.
Before I could utter any words that could save me, I had a woven sack over my head, dulling my senses.
Before I could even fight these people off, I felt a sharp point pierce my upper right arm and suddenly I was drifting and was no longer afraid.
Leah's POV
I woke up at 7 o'clock in the morning and with a sigh rolled off my bed and hit the floor with a thud. And with that I was awake, jumping up, I quickly got dressed ready for a normal day at school. But then it hit me, this was not a normal day at school and with a groan I realised that I was going to have to go to...
American High School!
...........................................................................................................................................................
Plodding along, I began to wonder what exactly this was going to be like. In Britain, all I had heard about was the cliche American high school. Now I was actually going to school, I looked up at the old brick building and shrugging, muttered to myself, "How bad can it be?"
Taking a deep breath I walked up to the office where a middle aged woman was sitting doing the crossword, her glasses perched precariously on her nose.
"Hello... could I have my schedule please?"
Looking up the woman smiled and laughed. I must have been staring at her as if she were a mad woman because she began to laugh even harder.
"Well, hey to you too. You must be the new girl, ain't that nice?"
I sighed and gave her a look that told I was losing patience.
"O.K, O.K, dearie. Here is your schedule, sorry about my laughing but your accent is just so cute."
I took my schedule, not really sure whether she was sane or not and nodded my thanks. As I walked away, shaking my head, I faintly heard her say to a colleague.
"Well isn't she a darling? And did you hear that accent? SO cute!"
"Yes, it was Debra." came the weary voice of her, most likely, long suffering colleague.
............................................................................................................................
"You must be the new student, Leah McKenna!" exclaimed an tall man in his 50s.
Nodding shyly I walked to a seat in the back of the room and rubbed my arms uncomfortably. For some reason people were muttering at me and some were even chuckling behind their hands and I could feel something inside bubbling wanting to ask what exactly was so funny.
"You know, you can't sit there" whispered a blonde girl with a sparkling blue eyes and an awkward smile.
"Why ever not?" I inquired.
"That's Daniel's seat!"
"Who-" and I was suddenly cut off as everyone, including the teacher stopped and almost seemed to... bow their heads. Looking around, I started to chuckle but was again cut off as I looked at the reason for their silence. Something stirred within me and I felt the urge to run towards this handsome stranger, and I had no idea why. I had never felt such strong feelings before.
Daniel's POV
I was in a foul mood, I could not believe I had to go to school. My father said that it was good for the Alpha to be knowledgeable about all things but I could not see how algebra was going to help me in my duties.
Riding in my red Ferrari, I swerved into school already late after my row with my father, but I was Alpha, so who cares. Even the humans knew I was in charge, it was a small town after all. Apparently there was a new kid but her parents only have a one year placement here so she will just be quite confused for her time here.
I sauntered into school, flashing a smile to Debra and shouted, "Looking beautiful as always, Miss!" And as always she preened and felt special about herself. Stupid woman!
I slowly made my way to class, arriving ten minutes late. "Mr White, please do come in", said the spineless coward meant to teach us. Usually I would have a smart comment but all I could do was stare at the girl in front of me. "Mate! Mate! Mate!" My wolf bellowed. I nodded and went to sit by her, shoving an extremely scared pack member from his chair. He did nothing to object because I was his alpha, almost all the people here were werewolves, only very few were human and an even smaller percentage did not know about us.
But there will be more explanations later, right now it was all I could do to not take her where she sat. Her dark hair flowed gently around her face as she fidgeted with the bottom of her dress. She was wearing a loose navy dress which complimented her pale blue eyes beautifully and left much to the imagination. And trust me, mine was going wild.
I caught a glimpse of her looking surreptitiously sideways at me and I watched as she seemed to gather up courage. "Stop staring, it's stalkerish" she whispered, and I was so taken a back by her audacity,I was left speechless.
Leah's POV
I cannot believe I just said that. I really should have just ignored him and now he is just glaring at me. This is why I hate new schools and this is why I don't talk to boys. I always mess up.
Hey I hope you like this it is my first proper go at a story. Pls vote COMMENT and share. Pls take notice of the fact that comment is in capitals and therefore is the most important of the three but especially as this is my first book pls do go easy :)
By the way long authors notes won't be the norm and I expect most of you, one or two people who actually bothered to get to the end have not even read this!
THANKS if you did. ☺️
