Song of the chapter: Dear No One

"You're disgusting." I laugh at my best friend, Bethany for making a completely gruesome joke. She shrugs carelessly , then continues to speak.

"It may be disgusting, but you've told worse," she says, looking at me dead in the eye. "Besides, you should be used to these kinds of jokes because Dylan is more dirty - minded than I am." She states, saying the obvious. Dylan is my older brother and he had a pretty dirty mind on him (of course, what else would a 17 year old boy do with their time besides checking out girls and making comments about them). I shook my head and walked up my driveway. Usually, Bethany walks to my house with me and stays a couple of hours to do homework and whatnot. I unlocked the door with my key and pushed it open, then closing it once we both got into the house. The familiar silence was filled throughout the house, considering I was usually always the first one home. Dylan had baseball practice after school, and my Mom usually worked until 6 PM. Beth and I walked into the kitchen and set our bags and binders down on the counter. I went over to the fridge and got out two water bottles for us, tossing one to Beth. I sit down next to her and pull out my iPhone.

"So what are your plans for your birthday? It's coming up soon." She asks me and I lean back in the chair I was sitting in. My birthday was in a couple of weeks, and I was finally turning 16.

"I honestly have no idea." I say and cross my arms over my stomach. I really didn't want a sweet 16 party, simply because they were so basic and I wasn't really the one for making things all about me. I didn't like all the attention, nor did I crave it.

"Colette, why don't you want a sweet 16?" Beth asks me and I shrug.

"You already know the reason why." I state, taking another sip of my water. She rolls her eyes sarcastically and sighs.

"Whatever dude." She says, finishing off her water.

It was now 5:45 PM, and I was lying on my bed flipping through my new Seventeen magazine. I had already finished my homework and took my shower, so I really didn't have anything else to do. My phone started buzzing, and I looked at the screen seeing Beth's caller ID lit across it. I slide the answer button, and put my phone in between my ear and shoulder.

"Hello?" I answer nonchalantly.

"Colette, dude, I have some new neighbors and the boy is so attractive. He looks about our age." She states in complete and utter excitement.

"Beth, calm down. You're acting like you just saw Justin Bieber or something." I stifled a laugh at my friend's funny reaction.

"I'm pretty sure you'd act the way I am right now if you saw how hot this kid is." She retorted, causing me to giggle slightly.

"You're crazy, you know that?" I said in complete honesty. She really was crazy sometimes, but I love her despite the fact.

Friday rolled around sooner than expected, and today I was spending the night at Beth's house. She's told me she's gotten to get to know her new neighbors, and apparently the boy's name is Austin. She claims that he's a sweetheart and he's shy at first, but he's fun to talk to. She also told me that she'd introduce me to him, which for some reason I was kind of excited about. I really wanted to see what he looked like. Anyways, Beth's Mom got off of work early so she ended up picking us up from school. When we got to her house, we went straight to her room and she immediately bombarded me with questions.

"Are you ready for this? Do you need makeup? Let me fix your hair real fast! Colette, oh my -"

"Jesus Beth, calm down! You're going to have a heart attack," I laugh at her unnecessary overwhelmed attitude. "I'm going to meet him the way I look now, because I really don't have anyone to impress." I retorted. She did her usual roll of the eyes and we both headed down the stairs and walked out of the door. We sat on the swing located on her porch, enjoying the warm sunny spring day. I was daydreaming about something random until Bethany squealed loudly, causing me to jump.

"That's th-that's him!" She says, pointing to the tanned, muscular boy coming down the driveway next door. He turns toward us and his lips slightly part while I try to keep my mouth from dropping, because my god this boy was extremely drop dead attractive.
