Chapter 1
Something strange.
It was a cold and snowy day when I was going to school. I am a twelve year old girl who goes to a charter school in California. My name is Melissa, and I am not normal. I have a twelve year old brother name Nereus, but he likes being called Frost.
My brother and I are kind of weird, our parents call us “different” but I know we’re just weird.
I’m not sure why it was snowing, because I don’t think it’s supposed to snow in California. All I know is that my brother wanted to see snow really badly, and then it snowed.
It seemed as though my brother had control over water, and he could stay under water for as long as he wanted.
With me, I can control fire, and I can’t get burnt. In the past year, we had found that my brother can control storms, and that’s the reason I think it snowed.
“Melissa!” I turned around and found my best friend Sierra running to me. “It’s snowing!” she yelled in delight as she caught up to me.
One thing about Sierra, she was like me, not normal. I think she can control fire too, but I know that she has control of lightning and electricity.
“Sierra,” I said, and then hesitated. I didn’t want to dampen her spirits of “natural” snow.
“Ya?”
“You know this is probably a storm from my brother. I mean, I don’t think that it’s supposed to snow on its own in California.”
“Oh,” Sierra got depressed. “Well we had better hurry to school.”
“Ya,” I said. I hate seeing her sad. “Let’s go.”
We started off walking, and we talked about real, un-summoned snow. When we reached school it was about seven fifty. Our school is a small two story building. Our school’s name was Hail Way California Middle School.
“Come on Melissa we don’t want to be late for math, Mr. Hicklon would kill us.” Sierra said, a little worried from what happened last time we were late. Sierra shocked him, and then had to hypnotize him to make him forget the incident.
Sierra and I walked to math class when we saw something really, really strange.
