Lycae Tribe Chapter 7
I ran and ran. Hours past by. Somehow I knew nothing was ever going to be ok. I got undressed and went into wolf form. I could feel my tail flowing out and my face get more of a muzzle. My ears pointed and my arms and feet scrunched together until I was a wolf. I took a long sniff to get used to my surrounding. Something was off, I could tell. Maybe it was just me but I had to be sure. I looked everywhere but I couldn’t find what was wrong. The place was vacant and there were no other scents but mine. I looked around. I saw nothing at first but eventually I found it. It was a dead rabbit. That was not normal. We lycans ate everything our prey had to offer but this rabbit was not disturbed in the least. Odd.
I flipped it over with my paw and gasped. A piece of paper was stuck to the side of it. And that wasn’t all. It was addressed to me. I ran back to my clothes and changed into my human form. I could never get used to my tail bone not having a tail when I was in this form. I put on my clothes and ran back to the rabbit. The piece of paper was still on the ground but with no sign of the rabbit. I could smell a scent with my nose. Even in my human form I had enhanced senses. I could hear people talking clearly even from 100 feet away. I could tell the difference from Coke and Pepsi from across a room ,and I could see really well in the dark. The smell was wolf. Was it a rival wolf or was it someone trying to take my position as Alpha? Was someone trying to blackmail me? What if someone had quit the Tribe and was out to get me? Questions raced through my mind, making up scenarios. Oh mon dieu this is bad I told myself. I had smelled this before. It was when I heard twigs breaking when I was at my special place. Could this be the same person? It had to be a coincidence but I had experienced things that were not at all normal these past few days. I picked up the note and read it.
"If you think of returning to your pack, don't. There are eyes in this forest that even you can't see. We know of everything you do. Run and get as far away from here as possible. If you do, you are dead, just like poor ol' Sam. Run now and don't think of anything else. We will be hunting you, never think you are safe. I sincerely hope I can meet you soon, it will be quite an.. interesting meeting don't you think? Your pack is finished. - K" It was signed 'xoxo' at the bottom.
I looked around, frantic. I ran back to the camp, however I went the long way. When I returned, I crawled in the back way of my shack. It seemed everyone from the pack had been here at some point in the last day. My bag was still laying at the foot of the bed, so I grabbed it. I didn't think, I just acted. I wouldn't endanger everyone here for my sake. The clothes were strewn all over the room, so the ones that smelt the cleanest were added. The jar of money, almost as full as the day I grabbed it, was included too. The necklace on my new dresser was put on my neck. I felt safer knowing I had a part of my mum with me. The sun was just cracking over the evergreen trees. I had no time, it was time to leave. I crawled out the back and was racing across the open field. Noone was around, they were either on rescue parties, or sleeping. Just at the foot of the forest I stopped. I was leaving my second home, this time I didn't know for how long. I memorized everything about this place; the sights, the sounds, the scents. Just then a tent flap opened. Green eyes looked at me from where I stood. A small gasp escaped Max's lips, he looked really tired. He took a step toward me but I shook my head. He stopped in his tracks.
"Goodbye Max, do not forget what I have contributed to this Tribe. I can't explain. Take care of them like I would", a tear escaping my right eye as I whispered these words. Max could hear me from across the camp. He looked at me for what seemed like forever, but was really only a few seconds. I memorized his face. The high cheekbones, green eyes, tan face and pale lips that had felt so soft on mine. He nodded and I ran as fast as I could. I had to get away, I had to run.
So I did.
