This slope is treacherous... I like it

She wants to stay with Karlie as much as possible, but she is, fortunately or unfortunately, a very busy celebrity. She had a charity performance that week for cancer, and she's already made the commitment so of course she went through with it. Not without worrying first, of course.

"Are you sure you're gonna be okay here alone?"

"Tay," Karlie rolled her eyes, "me and my little fetus will be just fine. There's plenty of bodyguards outside."

"Yeah, but I don't want you to get lonely or scared or-"

"Taylor," a little smirk and perfectly arched brow, "We'll. Be. Fine."

She sighed.

"Okay. I'll see you in a few hours."

The performance went well, as was expected. Although of course she'd earlier made thousands of possibilities in her head of things that could go wrong. Thankfully none of those things happened, but they were entirely possible. The day's been good so far.

And it's getting better.

She walks into the apartment to the smell of garlic and cheese. Karlie's usually the baker, but insists on making dinner sometimes to repay Taylor for her hospitality.

"Karlie, I don't need you to repay me," she always says.

"Yeah, well, you're so busy. If I don't feed you, who will?"

Considering most lunches are a granola bar or some other kind of snack food, she doesn't complain.

She walks up behind Karlie, who obviously hasn't heard her come in.

"And how is the little fetus doing?"

Karlie jumps, nearly splashing her with something hot as she turns around.

"Don't sneak up on me like that!" she receives a smack to the arm. "Scaring me is not good for the baby."

"Have you been reading all those baby websites again?"

"Maybe."

"Oh my God how long did you spend on the internet with those while I was gone?"

"None of your business."

She walks over to the stove, only to be pushed back, and to receive a little poke to the tip of her nose.

"Not until I'm done, missy."

"Aww, I can't even have a little taste."

"Nope. You're gonna have to wait patiently."

She is anything but patient, distracting Karlie at every opportunity, so much that she actually makes Karlie burn the noodles so she has to make another pot.

"I would call you annoying, but whenever I say something like that you get puppy dog eyes."

"I have no idea what you're talking about," she replies, working the puppy dog eyes, of course, and receiving yet another playful slap. Despite Karlie's strength, as she remembers well from their arm wrestling match at Vogue, those little slaps never hurt. She's a gentle giant.

They eat dinner together, as they've done for the past four nights in a row. It's weird, she thinks, that all of a sudden Karlie's making dinner for her. Well, maybe not all of a sudden, but it's never been so many times. She doesn't want to complain, because the food is delicious, in fact she doesn't think she's ever eaten so well, but something's not right.

Her headache gets a little worse as they do the dishes together, although she insists on doing them herself, Karlie just won't sit down. Karlie smiles as she rolls her eyes, and Taylor can't stop thinking about her lips. It's not like she hasn't thought about them before, she's just thought about them a lot more over the past few days. Karlie's just been so happy and it almost feels like normal again. She's been so focused on helping Karlie feel better that she'd almost managed to push her own feelings aside. Almost.
