A/N: Hi here is my prologue for my story. Would love feedback so thanks if you comment!!! :)
Clutching a teddy bear a small girl tip-toed down the hallway towards her mothers bedroom. The shadows on the walls reached out to her trying to grab her and pull her into their shady depths. Silent tears were running down her face knowing something was wrong but not really understanding what it was. She had been told to be quiet and not to wake her mother as she was resting but she so badly wanted to see her. Her aunt Josephine had told her that her mother would be joining her father soon in the stars and knew that she would soon be all alone just like she was alone tonight. Her mother was asleep and her aunt was watching over her mother. She knew she would be in trouble when she arrived at her mothers bedroom and she would probably be locked in her bedroom again but then she wouldn't get to see her mother before she went on her journey.
A scurrying sound off to her left made her freeze in fright. Thankfully it was only a mouse and its pure white paws shined in the moonlight clutching a piece of cheese. She wondered how it could be so care free when she was not. Her heart hurt and the burning behind her eyes was not easing despite the fact that she had no more tears to shed. She climbed onto her window ledge and stroked the hidden flowers and plants that she had so carefully nurtured and come to love. She smiled a sad smile and put her face up to the moon basking in its glory and warmth. A soft breeze blew on her face as if reassuring her that everything wa going to be ok. Maybe it would be.
She pulled herself from the window and started her walk up the stairs to the tower where her mothers bedroom was. By the time she got to the top her 5 year old legs ached from all the 598 steps that made up the spiral staircase to the top of the tower. The oak door that led to her mothers room was engraved with acorn leaves and had a big brass door handle. She hesitantly opened the door and the sight that greeted her would be a scene that would stick into her head for her entire life.
Her mother lay in the bed weakly grasping her Aunt's hand and smiling weakly. Her face was pale and sweating which made her look like a ghost and her skin stretched thinly over her bones as if she had not eaten in weeks. Her Aunts head was bent over the hand and she seemed to be taking extremely deep shaking breaths as if keeping back tears. The mothers once bright green eyes stared into the sparkling eyes of her daughter and as she held the other hand out weakly she knew by just looking into the tear filled eyes of her daughter that it was now time. They would be okay despite how sad they seemed they had each other. It had been a long time coming but she could finally rest in peace but first she needed to talk to them both.
"Sister, it is finally time for my passing but do not fear for I am not fearful of death for death is but the next great adventure. (A/N Harry Potter Reference) Remember the time when we were in the park Josie and you said that we could never imagine growing old living our lives. Well, here we are at the end and what a wonderful place it is. We have lived well. Throughout our lives we have learnt, played, worked and we have never had a moments rest now we are old we are able to do so. I shall be at peace finally Josie and I shall wait for you in heaven my sister."
"Daughter, I shall miss not being able to watch you grow up and see you blossom into the beautiful young lady I know you will become. You have already shown resilience against many hardships in your life and know that I will want you to live your life to the fullest. Never be afraid to be scared and know that I will always be with you through whatever hardship. You may not understand these words now but in the future look back on them and remember."
"Both of you now listen to me. Do not mourn my death celebrate my life and know that I love you both dearly."
And as the daughters mother took her last breath the girl cried tears of despair. The aunt clutched onto the hand of the mother and rocked back and forth. This is the story of Amelia Lisbon and how she became who she is today.
