"Mckenzie, come on, we are gonna hunt in a few minutes!" I yelled as I re-sharpened my arrows. It'd been a five years sense I shot my moms and my dad was arrested and things were great. Mckenzie was going to go hunting with me for the first time and she couldn't be more excited. She would have gone before but she decided to wait till she really knew she wanted to go. I had taken her on hunting patrols to see what prey might be running around but not real hunting. We even had more dogs.

Most of them mine though, Mckenzie didn't want to take in something she couldn't handle but she helped just as much with them.

We had East, an autumn colored Collie that we found by a covered bridge.

Dawn, an Australian Shepard that Mckenzie came home with.

Sky, an Australian shipyard and German Shepard mix.

A husky part wolf with rings around her eyes named Dusk.

Ace and Jemma, Wich we had before.

Frostbite, a husky part German shepard mix that was pure white. She was like the leader with Dusk.

We only took Ace and Hazel.

It was winter and somewhat darkening in the sky, so we hoped to at least track down either a deer going to its den or a deer den to wait for ones' return.

"Ready!" Mckenzie said as she came out of the make shift house. A dagger was strapped to her waist slightly showing under her shirt for gutting creatures if necessary. We still hunted but we went to town to get food like Pop-Tarts and stuff but we mainly mainly hunted.

I was so happy too see her like this. She was bright spirited and happy.

"Your excited," I told her my realization as I hooked up the dogs to leashes and handed her Hazel's leash.

She smiled and took it. " Im finally going hunting, of course I am!"

We chuckled and headed deeper into the woods. We honestly hardly knew the way back too the house anymore sense a new storm blew in. We had to go to a whole new town for supplies. I think they're growing suspicious of why we don't have adults with us or never mention any.

"Do you think we will get one?" She asked.

I scoffed,"It depends, but we might get lucky."

She looked down as we kept walking. Then her eyes widened as she saw something.

"tracks!" She whisper screamed.

"What?! You found something already?!"

As I walked over and looked at the tracks, I realized they were deer tracks.

"Lets just follow them a little bit and maybe we can find some clues." And we started following the tracks. The dogs sniffing them every now and then as we walked.

As we kept walking, I noticed a similar tracks that were about double the size of the other ones. I will admit, it didn't make me too happy to think of what we might endure.

After another ten minutes of walking and track chasing we found a small open clearing.

"Abby, look!" Mckenzie whisper screamed and pointed at a giant print on the other side of the clearing.

I froze, I knew immediately what they were. I felt all sorts of mixed emotions, excitement and fear, and they swirled around inside me like a hurricane.

"They're bear tracks" I told her.

She looked up at me, eyes wide, like the size of quarters, I could just feel the fear in the air when I told her. "Are we going to go after it?" Her voice shook.

"Only if you want to." I assured her. She looked at the tracks again as if estimating its size. There were a few moments of silence before she whispered,

"Ok."

I patted her shoulder assuringly and led the way following the tracks, I handed Mckenzie the other dog leash so she had both Hazel and Ace.

It had been about ten minutes of following the tracks when I heard rustling. Apparently Mckenzie heard it too.

"Was tha-" I covered her mouth to cut her off and walked forward, tip- toeing. The dogs growled slightly but I silenced them as well.

The sound became more clear with every step, I tried to step on the snowy ground as soft as I could without it crunching loudly. I found a large shrub next to a tree and I kneeled down behind it, readying my bow n' arrows.

I knew it wouldn't be easy taking down a bear with such a puny weapon, but I didn't bring my gun because I thought that all the larger animals would be still sleeping seeing that most of them were nocturnal, and I had seen no evidence of larger animals near home so how would I know we would come across a bear?

I peeked my head up above the bush just enough to see what was going on.

About fifteen yards away, I saw the beast.

It was about five foot tall on all fours, and it was as brown the tree bark. It's mouth was filled with slobber and opened just enough to see its vicious teeth.

I found myself staring at it for a few seconds. Wondering how I could ever kill it, when I ducked back down to Mckenzie next to me, the dogs laid down as if they were calm, but their ears were drawn back.

She mouthed the word, "Well?"

I nodded, assuring her it was there. I picked up my bow and grabbed an arrow from my small basket of arrows on my back. Mckenzie readied to unhook the dogs from the leashes.

I stared at the bear, aiming my arrow at my target. I aimed for its head and waited for it to stand still enough so I could let the arrow fly.

The bear finally stood still enough for me to take a shot.

I made sure the arrow was pulled back enough and swallowed my fear.

I let the arrow fly.

The dogs flew from the shrubs and hopped on the bear quicker than light.

The bear stood up in pain and rage and swatted at the arrow in its head.

I watched this as I pulled another arrow out and readied it in the bow.

I aimed it again but this time for the heart sense it was standing.

I closed my right eye making sure my aim was accurate and let it fly.

It whipped through the air and into the Bears chest.

The bear fell to the ground and the dogs climbed all over it, biting and scratching and clawing and gnawing at it.

The bear started swatting them away but they clung on more tightly.

I readied a third arrow and basically aimed anywhere but the dogs.

Finally, the bear stopped squirming.

I sighed in relief and looked down at Mckenzie happily as we walked over to the bear to prepare it to go home with it.

Omg! I finally updated! Yahhhhhssssss! Well anyway I'm sick and stuff so expect my other books to be updated today as well! 😀
