I smoothed out my perfectly fitting blue dress, took a deep breath and walked over to the handsome man dressed in a billion-dollar-suit who was waiting for me in front of The Villa, the most exclusive Restaurant in the city. He looked perfect to me; as beautiful as ever.
"Hi there," I smiled at him as his blue eyes met mine and instantly my heart skipped a beat. He never failed to do that to me.
"Hi," he whispered when he bent down to give me a kiss on my cheek. "You look beautiful indeed."
"You don't look that bad yourself," I replied, blushing slightly.
He just smirked and I felt his hand resting on my lower back. "Shall we?" he said, guiding me into the building which looked even stunning from the outside, giving only a glimpse of how precious it must look inside.
We passed the security guards and then a waiter welcomed us already, leading us to our table which was at the far end of the room, at the window with candles lightening the table and flowers as pretty as they can be. A smile crept across my face as we sat down. I looked up to see my man sitting opposite of me. He was smiling, too.
"Can I get you anything?" the waiter asked friendly, looking at us.
"A bottle of Sauternes, please."
"Of course," the waiter said and disappeared.
I knew why he ordered this one - it is my favourite one. He winked at me when I giggled. I was really nervous. "Ready to put on a show for the people?" he asked.
"As ready as I'll ever be," I replied honestly.
I looked around the room and noticed all the people when the waiter arrived with our wine, pouring it into our glasses before he left again.
Now I knew it was time and I was right. He already got up from his seat and motioned me to turn towards him. I took a deep breath as he kneeled down in front of me. My heart started racing as people were slowly turning towards us. I looked around in panic, wanting it to be real. I could see girls being jealous, women being happy and expectant and men being hopeful that next time they'll kneel down in front of their girlfriends. And then my eyes fell back on the man now kneeling in front of me, a beautiful diamond ring in his hands. His eyes saw right into my soul. I looked straight back, knowing this was it.
"The first time we met, you were chasing me out. The first time we spoke, you called me a liar. The first time we had dinner, you asked me what I wanted from you." He stopped for a moment and I could feel how my eyes were starting to tear up. "And the first time we kissed, I realized that I don't want anything except you. And now I'm asking if you'll go on one more adventure with me. Charlotte Adams, will you marry me?" His voice was passionate and my heart was on the verge of exploding.
I gulped, being aware that everybody in the room was staring at me and a single tear slid down my cheek but I quickly raised my hand to wipe it off. "Yes, I will," I whispered, when he quickly got up, a smile on his face that could light up the whole world. He put the ring on my finger, pulled me up and I slung my hands around his neck, pulling him closer, feeling his lips on mine. After what felt like forever our lips parted and I buried my head in his neck and knotted my fingers through his hair. People were clapping. "You bastard, that was a little too real," I whispered to him, catching my breath. "And it was damn good; a damn good act."
"Well. It was supposed to look real."
"The girl you will really propose to one day is a lucky lady, I must say," I said, meaning every word of it. Too bad this girl is not going to be me.
Then we pulled away from each other.
