The infestation hit 2 weeks ago, slowing food production. I haven't eaten in days. I am searching through the bins and dumps trying to find something for my family to eat. As I walk past the bakery I collapse under a tree and listen to the rain fall around me and the smell of freshly baked bread. Suddenly there is shouting inside and I hear someone cry out. I peer inside and see Peeta from school with a red hand mark on his cheek with three loafs of burnt bread he hurries outside and pretends to throw them to the goats when he tosses the loaves out to me! He darts inside before I can say anything but I will find him one day and thank him, how could I every repay him.
With my father in pieces in the mines and my mother in a mental problem I have been left to fend for myself as well as Prim. I leave at 9:00pm to go hunting with Gale, if it weren't for Gale I wouldn't be alive. He has saved me from bears and wild dogs on several occasions onto of teaching me how to hunt. He found me when I was in the Forrest for the first time and he taught me how to make traps, make weapons and track prey. I've had this massive crush on him since that day, he's just so strong, masculine and intelligent. He is so popular at school and all the girls like him. Anyway, we are sitting in my favourite tree shouting at the Capitol when we hear a hovercraft coming, so we dive under some bushes and hide "we should just run. Just run and live in the woods" Gale whispers "you know we can't Gale, I have prim and you have your brothers back home" I respond "but what if" he says "well we can't so there is no point Gale, we have to head back now if we are going to be un-noticed." I shout.
As we get to the town centre I look across and see Gale and he mouths to me that everything is going to be ok. I see Effie appear at the stage with her elegant dress as she makes the same speech as every year, I've practically mesmerised it. At the end she plunges her hand into the girls name barrel and I hear the name ring out "Primrose Everdeen". No this can't be right, she only has her name in once, I run up but the guards are pushing me back so I shout out "I volunteer as tribute, I volunteer" Prim and I embrace for a moment and then I go up to the stage and Effie quickly picks a name from the male barrel "Peeta Melark" that's him, the boy with the bread. I get to thank him before we get slaughtered in the arena.
