"Ouch!" Once again you fell to the ground. You had been trying to get one damn trick to work for the last two hours now but you failed each and every time. It had seemed so easy when you saw him do the same trick yesterday but somehow you were unable to get it to work. "So it's the same as always, huh?" you asked yourself. Sometimes you wondered why you clung so much to the idea of learning how to skateboard and how to do tricks. Then again this was better than how it had been a year ago.
Back then you were bored all of the time. There was nothing you had wanted to do and you had given up on trying to find something. Throughout the years you had tried many different things but you didn't keep it anything up for more than a month. You got tired of the different sports you did, gave up on learning how to play the guitar, decided dancing wasn't for you, noticed that drawing was something you wouldn't be able to do even after a thousand years of trying to learn it and last but not least gave up on learning how to cook. As for the last one, you at least learned how to not accidentally set the kitchen on fire.
Anyway, last year you saw this boy at the skatepark doing awesome stunts with his skateboard. That had picked your interest so you decided to learn how to do that too. It had looked easy enough when you saw him and you got excited just from watching him so you figured it might be fun. You realized that it seemed a lot easier than it actually was the next day after you had bought a skateboard. Simply rolling on the ground was enough to throw you off the board and it took you a while until you could keep your balance while rolling at a slow pace.
If it had been anything else you would have given up on it long ago by now but for some reason you kept going. All the people who knew you were surprised since skateboarding was the first thing you had stayed with this long. The person who was most surprised by this were you though. You spent every free minute you had with it yet you didn't get bored of it. When you fell you cursed and were annoyed at how it wouldn't work but you always stood up again grabbed your board and tried it again. It was as if there was something that wouldn't let you give up. Or more precisely it wouldn't even let you think about giving up.
The reason for it was probably the boy you had seen back then. You watched him every chance you got because you thought he was super awesome. You kind of wanted to be like him or at least on the same level as him. If you needed practice to get there then you would keep it up. Something about him motivated you to move forward but you couldn't say what it was. He just seemed to be having a lot of fun and this made you want to see the world he was seeing.
For now you had to go home though so you stood back up and went to grab your board. The sun was setting and you had to admit it had something beautiful to it but it also meant the day was ending. Another day without getting any better was ending. And tomorrow you would yet again be here, on your skateboard, trying to get better but landing on the ground instead.
On the next day you were able to practice all day and that was exactly what you had decided on doing. Since morning you had been here doing some tricks you already knew and practicing the new one. Of course you failed it again every time you tried but then something unexpected happened.
"Oi. You need help with that trick?" When you looked up to see who the voice belonged to you were shocked. There was only one boy with white headphones around his neck and a black beanie on his head. Did he want to help you by any chance? You took the hand he was holding out to you and stood up. "Yeah. I can't seem to figure out how it works" you said as you went to pick up your skateboard. "I'll show you." Surprised by that you turned around to look at him. "Really?" – "Yeah leave it to me I'll teach you how it works!" When he said that he looked like a big brother who was proud to get to teach is younger sibling something. Did he maybe take you for younger than you are? To you it seemed rather like he was the younger one but seeing his smile made you keep quiet about this for now. "I'm Yata by the way" he told you. "[LN]."
