Behind Golden Eyes Chapter 2

Day by boring day, school dragged on as I completely ignored what I was supposed to learn and instead tried figure out the mystery that was Ryder. I put my books away and shut my locker. It was the end of the day and I waited outside like normal for Nat and Molly. I sat on the hood of car, scanning the area. Finally, I spotted Nat smiling and laughing, hand in hand, with his girlfriend Brittney. She was a pretty girl with long blond hair and big hazel eyes. She was really shy but incredibly sweet, perfect for Nat. He saw me and kissed her cheek before running in my direction. Brittany noticed me too. We smiled and waved at one another before she went toward her bus. I smiled at the huge grin on my little brother's face. He really loved that girl and I was glad she was around. He was so happy whenever he was with her and she was a good influence on him too.

"You really like her, don't you?" I asked ruffling his chestnut hair.

He didn't swat my hand away; instead his grin grew larger. "Yeah I do. But you know Jay if you had a girlfriend you would be less of a grouch. Well, if you could get one anyway." He commented, chuckling a bit.

I playfully punched his arm before I spotted fiery red locks coming in our direction. Molly ran towards us tugging some poor soul behind her. Normally, I wouldn't care who she forced to tag along with us but, this time I did. The person she was pulling to my car was none other than Ryder.

"Sorry I'm late. Jay, you remember Ryder, right?" She asked.

He looked at me and I tensed under his gaze. Averting my eyes, I nodded. I could feel the faint smile on his face, whether it showed or not. Molly introduced Nathan to him and vice versa. Once done, we climbed in my car and headed to the party my other good friend, Sean, wanted help with. I honestly didn't want to, but Molly promised to kick my ass if I didn't. I may not be scared of a lot of things but when that girl is angry she even gives the devil nightmares (as devil sits up in bed screaming). Nat sat in the front with me. Molly probably asked him to so she can sit next to Ryder. I didn't see what the big deal was. I mean it's just a seat. I mean, it's not he's going to go and propose to her, although that would be a sight. She and Nat discussed their day while I only half listened. I glanced at my rear view and looked at Ryder. He gazed out the window, his head leaning against it. He seemed either completely bored or lost in thought. He turned his gaze toward me and for a split second I could have sworn I saw his eyes glow gold. I shook my head and returned my attention to the road.

"Everything alright bro?" Nathan asked.

"Yeah everything's fine, just lack of sleep that's all". It wasn't a complete lie I was suffering from insomnia. I could tell he didn't completely believe me from his expression. I wished I could tell him but he had enough to worry about at his age. I didn't want to add 'going crazy brother' to that list. I pulled up to Sean's driveway as he came out the front door. As we got out of the car, he walked over to greet us.

"Hey guys, sup Ryder", he smiled. I lifted a brow in confusion.

"You two know each other?"

"Well duh, where have you been for the past week?" He chuckled.

"Oh you know doing your sister" I replied. He rolled his eyes before punching me in the arm.

"That's for being a total ass"

I smirked. "Oh come on, being an ass is part of my charm".

Everyone laughed as he led us inside his house. It was a pretty big house too. It appeared almost like a mansion which is why it was the perfect place for a party. This was one of the many perks I enjoyed about having a couple of rich friends. That may have sounded selfish but I'm human, right? He guided us outside so we could set up. He opened his mouth to tell us something before the doorbell sounded. He looked slightly annoyed before running off to go answer it. We all looked confused except for Ryder. Sean came back with a girl following close behind. She had a look about her, one that said touch me and I'll bite your hand off.
