Chapter 9

Winter's POV

Me and Piper shot up. "We can explain." Piper said, while I froze.

"This is against the prophecy!" Annabeth snapped. "How could you... How could you do this to me? And you Piper, knew this all along."

"I have a valid reason." I said.

She flared her nostrils in anger. "There are no valid reasons when it comes to the prophecy."

Leo appeared beside Annabeth, anxious on joining the show. "Hey people how you doin'?" He said casually, probably trying to lighten up the mood.

"You know how I'm doing? Not fine at all." She furiously said. "Great. Winter is here to put us all in danger." She muttered something that I couldn't quite decipher.

"Oh hey Winter!" He waved at me.

"What?!" She hissed. "Even you? You knew all along? Oh gods! Who am I to trust now?" She ran out of the room.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't want you guys to get involved in this." I looked at the light pink cabinet that had small specks of red velvet.

I suddenly focused my attention at the blanket until Piper spoke up. "It's okay. If we didn't really want to be involved in this, we could've already told Annabeth."

"Thank you guys. I've never felt so... Appreciated." I said as I recalled my mother's words; you won't be alone. You'll find—

"We're your friends!" Leo exclaimed.

They called me their friends...

"Leo, I think you should go to Annabeth." Piper suggested.

"Of course." He nodded and ran out of the room.

Annabeth's POV

"Let's turn back the ship." I said to Leo.

"Can't do that." He said looking problematic. "There's only one day left until we reach New Rome."

"I don't care. We shouldn't—"

"And we are at a loss of fuel." Leo added. They should've brought at least an extra.

"Maybe," I said, exasperated. "We go to New Rome and get some fuel right?" He nodded. "Then we could go back."

"Nope. Because we have deadline." He pinched his chin. "Remember the calculations."

"Or I could ask Blackjack to bring her back." I rolled my eyes because everything I am starting to say is already shenanigans. I'm already running out of ideas.

"You know how to speak horse?" Leo asked, furrowing his eyebrows. His expression turned serious. "If you really hate her. Just say so."

"Not really..." I looked at the ground. I sighed as I looked back at him. "Okay fine. I hate her for going to this ship. I just want to see Percy once more." Saying his name was painful.

"I understand." He gave me a warm smile.

"But we can't just leave it be." I said. "It's too dangerous."

"Trust me on this one. Nothing that dangerous will happen to this ship and our friends." He assured.

"But—"

"Do you trust me?" He cut me off.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "Yes. I trust you."
