5. I've screwed up man.
Austin.
"Let's get ready to party all night!" Conner pushes my arm and jogs inside Derek's house, the guy who's having the party. I shove my hands inside my jacket with a sigh and walk beside Jack, who is grinning non-stop. He has everything planned out to ask out the girl of his dreams, Tamara Grant. He looks at me and wraps an arm around my neck pulling me to his side.
"Come on man, have fun" He tells me, I look up at the stars in the sky and wish I were there instead of here "I know you're hiding something relating to that girl, Skeeter"
My head automatically snaps back at him at the mention of her name. He can't possibly know that I'm hiding something, that's something I'm an expert at, hiding my emotions. I know that I hurt Skeeter in a way that isn't easy to mend, in a way I can't forgive myself on doing so. I put on my poker face and give him a small grin, even though I know Jack is one guy that can look right through me if he tried hard enough.
"You know what happened, and that's it" I tell him "no more"
We walk inside the house right before Jack could tell me something else. I scan the place and see that the entire house in now full of people. For some reason I find myself searching for Skeeter, even if I know she isn't a party type of girl, I even doubt she might come. But if Tamara is coming, then Skeeter will probably be here too.
"I'll give you twenty bucks if you hook up with that girl over there" Conner appeared right next to me and pointed to a girl that was standing with a bunch of guys. As I checked out the girl I noticed she wasn't my type. I also noticed that now I had a type, that's something Skeeter Collins changed about me.
"I have to pass man, but hey, you go for it" I say, he gives me a weird look and then shrugs, drinks what was left of his beer and heads off to the girl. As I stand there alone I take my jacket off and hang it on the coat hanger, I make my way to the kitchen while dancing people bump into me and the music bursts loud against my ears.
When I finally enter the kitchen the first thing I catch eye on is her. Her hair is in it's wild waves, she wonders around the kitchen while holding a red cup. I didn't say anything for a while, I wanted to enjoy the electricity she gave me with just a look at her.
"Didn't know you were a party girl" I finally tell her, she turns around and looks at me, her face is as beautiful as always, with her pointy noise and rosy lips, her dreamy blue eyes looking directly at mine. I turn away from her gaze and open the fridge, afraid that if I looked any longer I would loose my senses and just kiss her.
I take a beer out and take off the lid by the edge of the island. I tip it on my lips and take a drink from it, the bitter taste going down my throat. Skeeter does nothing, just simply look at me with a grave expression. For some reason I know I lost her, even if she wasn't entirely mine. I long her touch, her eyes averting mine whenever she was nervous. An involuntarily grin makes it's way to my lips, just remembering her skin against my skin makes me get the chills, even if it was just a simple touch.
I know I was the stupid asshole that pushed her away, that broke her heart that night when I didn't know what to do, or say.
"There are many things you don't know about me" she finally says something, I noticed too, that I craved for her voice. She looked away from me down to her cup, she fiddled with it and didn't look back up at me. I wouldn't blame her, who would want to look at the guy who never denied he fucked her, what Conner had said was a lie, and all I did was go along with it.
"Alex, you sure are winning the game on Friday" Marlene, the captain from the cheer squad says, and walks in with Alex, the guy who I've hated since I can remember. The guy who got in the bed with my ex-girlfriend. When I first saw him talking with skeeter at jack in the box my blood boiled, I knew I couldn't just threaten and tell him to stay away, but I was sure as hell not letting him alone with her.
