Joshua's POV

Our parents and I watched Katerina walk out the dining room in an emotional rush.

My mother gave me a concerned look.

"Did something happen with her and Prince Roberto?" She asked as she looked from me to my father, and back at me again.

My father caught my eye before I could say anything.

He shook his head, as if telling me not to say anything to my mother.

Should I not tell my mother about their breakup?

My father narrowed his eyes and cleared his throat, warning me.

I sighed.

"Not that I know of," I lied as I got back to my newspaper, to my breakfast.

From the corner of my eye, my mother stared at my father and then at me again. She knew that I was lying. She knew that my father had made me lie-- about not knowing what happened between Katerina and Roberto.

Any case, I needed to speak with Roberto soon. I needed to know the actual, full detail on how-- and why-- they broke up.

I have this odd feeling that it had to do with the party that's coming up, how he has to pick someone from the harem his father chose for him.

Katerina's POV

I stayed in my room for the remainder of the day.

As the sun began to set, a knock came from my bedroom door.

My mother entered the room after.

Ever since I got back, I've never really been in a room alone with her.

So, this felt odd.

It felt even more odd now because we used to be so close, but of course that had changed once I had ran away.

My mother came to sit down next to me on my bed.

For a while, she just sat there next to me, looking elsewhere but me. The main subject of the room.

"Tell me why you don't want to go to Prince Roberto's party," She said in a demanding tone, almost commanding even. That was kind of out of character of her.

"I don't really want to talk about it," I said as I curled up into a ball on my bed.

She looked down at me and sighed.

"Something did happen then," She began, "with you and Prince Roberto."

I pursed my lips together.

"Maybe."

"You two were dating, am I correct?" My mother laid down next to me then.

I nodded, "But it wasn't for too long. I don't even think that we were even really dating."

My mother laughed.

She tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.

"Of course, you two you really dating." She said as she caressed my cheek with the back of her hand. "If you weren't, then the separation wouldn't feel so painful."

"You think I'm in pain?" I raised an eyebrow.

She smiled.

"You've been cooped up in your room for almost three weeks now," She began brushing her fingers through my long violet hair. "Anyone could see that something was wrong. They just wouldn't expect the Princess of Dres Van would be sad from her first ever breakup."
