"Are you sure you want to do this?" Eric, my father, asked as he loaded my suitcase into his trunk.

I stayed silent for a moment with my back leaning against the car thinking about what it would be like to live with my mom again. I haven't seen her for 4 years and we never talked.

"Tegan" my dad called and i looked up at him to see a familiar pair of brown eyes stairing at me. "Whats with you blanking out when i talk, kiddo?"

"Sorry, Eric." i said. "i was just thinking. Yes I'm sure i want to do this." I headed into the passenger seat and staired out the window. I didn't even notice Eric come in until the door slammed.

"You know we have extra room at the house. Claire really wanted you to stay, she was really looking forward to being a family" I felt his eyes on me as he spoke. Eric got married to my stepmother, Claire, 4 months ago. I got along with her and her 3 kids very well, but i didnt want to be in their way. Claire also had a job that required her to relocate every couple of months and i wasn't willing to move around when i had 1 year in highschool left.

"I know, but i already told you my reasons." I sighed and looked at him "I'll be fine."

"All right, lets hit the road." He forced a smile and put his keys into the ignition.

The car ride to the airport was silent and awkward. Eric kept glancing at me repeatedly and i did my best to ignore him. I suppose he was looking for some indecation that I was upset, but truthfuly i felt apathetic to it all.

My mother and I never had the best relationship. I lived with her up until i was 13. We never got along, and i moved out as soon as my stepdad, Vic, moved in. I resented Vic because of the way he treated my mother and my mother because of the way she let him treat her. So i moved in with my father. He was single, old, and seemed to be very lonely in that house of his. Things ended up better for Eric, i was proud of him.

"We're here" Eric said staring through the windshield window. I looked at him and regretted it immediately. Seeing him get so emotional, made me tear up a bit. I looked away and mumbled something while getting out the car.

I walked to the trunk with my arms across my chest looking down. I suddenly felt Eric's presence beside me. I watched him take out my suitcase and close the trunk slowly.

He sighed "I'm going to miss you kiddo"

I smiled "Im going to miss you too, Eri- I mean Dad." He smiled widely when he heard that. Eric was never fond of me calling him by his first name. So on the rare occasions i did call him dad, it made him happy no matter what mood he was in.

"If you and your mother are having your problems, you know I'm here right?" i nodded as we walked into the airport. "I know how Kim can be but try to get along with her okay? I wish you luck sweetheart. Please make sure to call me every week. It would be nice if you called Claire every once in a while, she loves you." I nodded every once in a while as he continued to talk, to make sure he knew i was listening. We stopped walking once we got to the check in line and faced each other.

Eric smiled "I'm going to miss you...we all are. I'm sure Kim will be excited to see you. You got so big and now you're all grown up. I can't believe you're seventeen. You know....you look more and more like you mother everyday."

I cocked my eyebrow folding my arms across my chest. Eric knew how i felt when he compaired me to my mother.

"Oh come on, Tegan. You're mother is a very beautiful woman, and so are you"

I sighed "Thanks i guess. I'll miss you too, Eric. Tell everyone that i'll see them soon and that I'll miss them. I should really get going, i have to check in."
