She was pushing herself over her limit. Even knowing that, each running step she took, she increased her speed. The blazing sun that was peeking through the trees was beating down her back. Most likely sweating out her egyptian blowout that was held up in a high ponytail.
'dress it up and go to NASA..'
Without breaking her stride , she paused her music on her phone which was attached to her wrist. She checked the time and the distance she ran so far. 92 minutes. 3.4 miles. Not good enough. She frowned and focused her attention back on the trail in front of her.
Her calf muscles and thighs were screaming for her to stop. She just ran faster.
She had her Beats headphones in her ears with Future singing something about March Madness. Even though she didn't understand half the nonsense he was spewing about, it had a nice beat to it . She usually just enjoys the sound of nature around her. Embracing how the birds sang their sweet tune or even just the soft rustle of the leaves dancing in the breeze.
Her best friend, who happens to be her personal assistant, recommended the song to her. Telling her it's 'turn up' music and that listening to the sound of birds fucking each other shouldn't get her blood pumping. She slightly smirked at that. Her best friend defiantly had a way with words. Corina was the complete opposite of her. While she was calculated, composed, and blunt, Corina was outgoing, spontaneous, and unpredictable. She was always trying to drag her to some hot new spot or strip club downtown.
As much as she does want to go out and enjoy the nightlife, she would decline. She had no choice because it wasn't up to her. But for some reason, despite their different worlds, they got along perfectly. Corina was the only person in this world she would ever let her guard down around and that says a lot. It took her years to build up a front to the point where sometimes she feels as if she's void of any emotion. Thankfully, Corina was her shoulder to cry on when things got to hard or she just needed to vent.
Which was one of the main reasons why her mother found their friendship distasteful. Her mother considered feelings as a weakness. Saying that if she one day wanted to take ownership of the company, then weakness was not permitted. But Corina is her best and that was the one and only thing she would not let her mother take away from her. She refused.

Her dark brown eyes held stubborn determination as she moved with the breeze. Her jaw was clenched showing off her high cheekbones and well structured face. Saying she was beautiful would be an understatement. If you were to put up the BRATZ doll sasha to her face, you would think they crafted that doll specially for her. Well, except for the overly large head of course. But if you were to match her up with her mother, you would think they were sisters. Most people did. Probably the only thing she was happy to have passed down from her elder.
Don't get her wrong, she loved her mother. It's just that her mother has a different way of showing love that most mothers would express. But that tough love is going to mold her into the woman she was meant to be. Or at least she hoped so.
Sweat was dripping down her ebony face as she kept running the trail. The adidas sports bra and training shorts showed off her well toned athletic build. She was no Serena Williams but she was in great shape. She had modest B-cup breasts and an ass that would make a man break his neck just to get a glimpse. She had to keep up her appearance. She just had to. Or else mother will be disappointed. At that thought, she went from a fast jog to a full Sprint.
Her mother, Tisha Winters, should be the face of 'I'm a strong, black, independent woman that don't need no man!' poster meme. She always walked with an air of arrogance and strength. And she had every right to, seeing as how she was the CEO of her own fashion agency. She is a perfectionist down to the models she signs, the clothing, and even her daughter. Especially her one and only daughter. The next in line when her mother steps down from the throne. She acted more as a coach than a mother.
Exhale.
'Giving up is not an option!'
Inhale.
'Did I raise a failure or a champion?!'
Exhale.
'Hmph. You really are your father's child.'
Inhale....wheeze...inhale..
'You disappoint me, Phoenix.'
So caught up in her thoughts, she didn't even notice the tree root that was sprouting from the ground until it was too late. Unable to stop, her ankle collided with the root and projected her towards the ground. She was awaiting the stinging sensation that would inflict her knees, stomach, and face upon making impact with the ground.
But it never came.
Instead, she landed with a 'oof' on top of muscular male specimen , who she was now laying on top of. Seeing as how her face was in his chest, she lifted her sweat sheen face only to make eye contact with probably-no- definitely the most exotic looking man she has ever seen. Or in this case ran into..literally . She could feel his bulging biceps that were currently wrapped around her waist keeping her secure . She opened her mouth to start the apology process but he beat her to it. He gave her a small smirk and looked up to the sky.
"Well it's my lucky day," his blue orbs looked back down at her, "it's raining chocolate women.."
