CHAPTER EIGHT
Beverly was really tired, the day she had was very productive, but exhausting at the same time. She had met with her new client, and they hit it off right away. They established what she would be doing for him to clean his image up and all parties seemed to be pleased. Amanda wasn't herself the whole day and it showed. Beverly wasn't sure why Amanda was off today, but she thought something was really going on with her. Before she left the office, she told Amanda she needed to take a mental health day. Beverly would have her new state of the art alarm system installed on Monday and she planned on returning home as soon as that was done. She looked at her phone on the way to the garage and realized she had several missed calls. Her lawyer was one of them. She had some documents she needed to sign pertaining to a new contract, then there was Brian, and Roland as well. She had been so busy in meetings she had absolutely no time at all to take calls. She was tired, but was also relieved she found a new alarm company that would accommodate her needs. She looked under contacts for Roland and pressed the little green button on her Iphone to call him. After a few rings, Roland picked up the phone. "Hey Beverly, I'm at the airport catching a flight home, I found something I think you should know, can you meet me tonight?", he asked; urgently. "Um, yes you say when and where and I will be there", she responded; wearily. "Okay, I will call you as soon as I land, I'm on a direct flight, so I will be there by 7:30", he said; sharply. "I'll wait for your call Roland, and thanks again for your help with this, have a safe flight". Beverly hung up the phone, and sat in silence in her truck outside of her hotel for a moment. She wondered what Roland found and felt really uneasy about it. For some reason she knew it would be bad news. She could feel it in her bones, and it was not going to be good. Just then another text message came in from Vanessa, "Call me girl, need to talk to you". She didn't bother to respond, as she could think of nothing else but Teddy. She would call Brian when she settled in to her room tonight, but she had to wait for Roland to call because right now that was her priority.
She walked into the Fortune House lobby and noticed it was very busy, but when wasn't Miami busy. She was feeling really anxious and couldn't wait until Roland was back tonight. As she walked to the elevator, the front desk attendant waived to her, and then signaled for her to stop at the front desk. She really wasn't up for conversation but she obliged him and walked over. He was a short little guy with a balding head and a reseeding hair line, his belly protruded out like a bag of laundry and he always seemed nervous when he talked. "Hi Ms. Davies, just wanted to let you know that someone paid your bill, so your all set for check out tomorrow". Beverly immediately felt puzzled, "Huh?, someone paid my bill?", she questioned with a surprised look on her face. "Well, yes I'm sure they did, it was just a little while ago, Ms. Davies, he was a tall gentleman, looked distinguished and had a strong Spanish accent". She stood there puzzled for a minute, trying to get her bearings, at that point she knew it wasn't Brian. "Did he say what his name was?" she asked; desperately. "No he didn't say his name in fact he paid your whole bill with cash". "Okay, thanks" she replied;, as she abruptly walked toward the elevator. He watched her walk away, as the next customer in line stepped up to the counter.
She finally got to her room, and she felt really uneasy. She didn't even feel safe at this hotel anymore. Who the hell would come here, and pay her bill in full with cash, hell only a hand full of people knew she was even staying at the Fortune House, because of the break ins. she sat on the bed to think for a minute. She took her heels off, so she could change and get comfortable before she met up with Roland. She counted the amount of people she told. Vanessa, Roland, and Amanda and of course the police. She hadn't even had a chance to tell Brian about the break ins yet. This was too weird for her. Who the hell could it be? she thought to herself, then it dawned on her and she slowly whispered to herself. "Reynaldo Gutierrez". The name stumbled off of her lips, and the sudden realization became more clear. The break ins, Teddy missing in action, the feeling of someone watching her, and now the hotel bill. Her worse nightmare was coming true, and she had to act fast, or she would lose everything. She began packing her suitcase and gathering her things. She was going to check out tonight and call Vanessa and just go stay the night at her place, so she could gather her thoughts and strategically plan her next move. She didn't want to leave Miami, but if she had to she would. She had enough money to do so, but she couldn't move hastily, she had to meticulously plan. She hit the contact for Vanessa as she headed for the door. Vanessa picked up on the first ring. "Hey girl, it's about time you return my call"...Beverly interrupted her quickly. "I need to come to your place like now, are you home?" "Yes I'm home...is everything alright?", Vanessa questioned. "I will be there soon talk to you when I get there..and thanks girl". Beverly hung up, grabbed her little suitcase on wheels and headed for the lobby. For the first time she was scared, but she refused to live this way, so she had to get to the bottom of this and if it was the last thing she did, she would.
