                                     Chapter One: What about love?

Luke sat down aimlessly looking at an album of tiered cakes. Majority of them were cheesecake and butterscotch. “Gretchen this is a sweet 16 not a wedding.” Luke chuckled.

“Luke, every girl knows that there are only three important events in a girl’s life there sweet 16, prom, and wedding.” Gretchen walked towards the mirror to observe every aspect of the dress. “Gretchen” Luke paused. “You look stunning” he complimented.

“Of course, this dress was hand made by Valentino Garavani himself.” Gretchen replied with an overconfident look. Gretchen on the outside may seem snobby, rich, and superficial. But in disguise she was just a lost little lamb who needs love and affection. “Luke,” Gretchen grabbed her Chanel bag to reach for her phone. “Did you choose your outfit?” Gretchen asked.

“Yeah, I sent you a picture on your phone” Luke answered. Gretchen responded utterly confused. “You are not seriously considering, wearing a flannel shirt on the day of MY sweet 16, are you?” Gretchen emphasize on the word “My”. “Gretchen, I promise we can settle this tomorrow.” Luke kissed Gretchen. “Right now I’m late for my shift at the grill.” Luke checked his watch for the time. “Why do you even work at that dump?” Gretchen carried out an elegant and formal silver-plate. The plate carried various amount of different jewelry’s. “Gretchen unlike you I need money to support...” Gretchen interrupted. “Which one do you prefer? Tiffany or Harry Winston” Gretchen rudely interfered. “That huge diamond necklace” Luke answered. “All of them are diamond.” Gretchen said furious, because of the poor description Luke gave her. “As I was saying I need to help my family financially.” He continued with the previous unfinished sentence he gave, before Gretchen disrupted him. “I told you Luke, if you’re desperately in need for money I can give it you. I highly doubt my parents would care if I check out 5,000 dollars out of my account.” Gretchen offered. “Gretchen, I need to earn this money on my own. Besides you need to stop worrying about me.” Luke gently lifted Gretchen hand and gave her a French kiss. Gretchen teased and responded to his comment. “I know the stress is giving me wrinkles.” Luke walked away coincidentally around the same time Gretchen’s two best friends arrived. “Look who it is, Luke. New York’s finest.” Juliet teased. “It wouldn’t be a day with Gretchen, without the wicked stepsisters.” Luke replied with a comeback.

“Luke, I never knew you were so sassy.” Alexis showed off her Marc Jacobs handbag, the new “Safari Large Single.”

“We will currently update your status from, busboy to diva.” Juliet smirked.

“It’s disappointing, your jokes been kind of rusty lately.” Luke commented and left to the car.

Alexis and Juliet headed to Gretchen’s gate.

Bonjour!” Juliet said on the wireless doorbell speaker, to the French butler.

Qui en parle?” The butler asked.

C’est Alexis et Juliette” The iron gates finally opened. Alexis and Juliet hurriedly went inside. “Gretchen!” Alexis yelled.

“In here” Gretchen said.

“Come on Gretchen were late. Visiting hours just started.” Alexis rushed Gretchen. Alexis is a person who’s living in a current state of denial. Her ex-boyfriend physically abused her because of his recently diagnosed “Bipolar disorder,” but she doesn’t see that he has no desire whatsoever of ever loving her. “Tell me why you still visit him?” Gretchen seemed discombobulated.
