That escalated quickly

Phoenix's POV:

My eyes were wide with fear. I sensed Ember halt beside me. The noises slowly grew louder and I felt my sister grab my arm and pull me away from the terrifying sounds. We slammed against an ivy covered wall as the thing turned the corner. I peered my head around the wall to get a good look at it. What I saw, I will never forget.

A mechanical monster whirred down the corridor. It's disgusting, slimy skin reflected off the glowing moonlight. It had spikes coming off it's body and at all different lengths. But the worst were the noises. It let out piercing screeches that would haunt my mind forever. We took that as our cue to run. We sprinted in harmony, side by side, away from this hideous monster. We ran and ran, turned corner and corner for what seemed like an eternity. "Ok, ok I think we're far enough." Ember said between heavy wheezes.

We heaved in and out, gasping for air, filling our lungs. I slid down the wall and sat on the stone floor. Ember came and plopped down at my side.

"Well that escalated quickly." I sighed. Ember let out a sarcastic laugh, currently not in the mood.

"We need out of here." She said, quietly.

"Where is here?" I asked.

Ember's POV:

"I'm sorry, but what even was that thing?! And why are we not freaking out like we should be?!" Phoenix said harshly.
"I don't know. But can we just not talk right now?" I either said that because I was too tired, or too traumatized for conversation. I sighed heavily and leaned my head against the wall, resting my eyes. Why is this happening? Why are all of our memories gone? Everything is happening too fast.
I finally turned and nodded at Phoenix, gesturing that we needed to keep moving. We stood up, cautiously wandering aimlessly around each bend, avoiding any sound that we heard.

"I swear, this is a never ending maze." Phoenix whispered. I thought about that. "Maybe it is." I smirked.

We walked around for hours, talking about pointless things, trying to conjure up any memories. I looked up, and saw a glimpse of light rising from the sky, thankful it was almost day again. Hope was starting to fill my chest. Maybe this isn't an endless maze.

That hope died quickly.

I perked up my ears, and a pit started to form in the bottom of my stomach. "No..." I mumbled. "Please, no." My sister and I both stopped dead in our tracks. We looked at each other, as another mechanical monster rounded the corner. Without any need of words, we both darted away as fast as a bullet. The monster chased after us, obviously faster, and fear welled in my chest. I suddenly felt a burst of adrenaline course through my veins and I quickened my pace.

Phoenix's POV:

I saw Ember gain speed so I did the same. Every muscle in my body screamed at me to stop, as if begging for mercy. My head pounded against my skull and made my vision dizzy before my eyes. It felt as if my heart would burst out of my chest at any moment. I still ran. My feet slapped against the hard ground and echoed throughout the corridor. I made my legs work faster, if that was even possible, and was soon a step ahead of Ember.

We both reached the corner and looked back to see where the thing was. It was about 20 feet back. I turned the corner, Ember right on my heels. I looked back again and right as I did, my fast legs and feet got tangled. I tripped and fell on the hard ground, my head hitting it with so much force, I should've passed out. Pounding. That's all I could hear. I couldn't make sense of anything besides my throbbing head and body. I finally looked up and the horrifying creature was standing above me. I was about to scream bloody murder, but before I could, a sting started on my stomach, then enveloped my whole body. It was a pain like none other.
Muffled screams. That's all I could hear. Some my own, some Ember's, and some from that horrific monster. I screeched and wailed, the pain growing worse and worse. I squeezed my eyes shut, but quickly popped them back open after hearing Ember exclaim, "It's gone!... it's gone."   She clutched my hand. I shifted my eyes to look that way and it was true. It was nowhere in sight. It was only us. I couldn't control my movements, writhing in agony as a new wave of sharp pain coursed through my body.
I heard words, yet struggled to understand their meaning. Speaking wasn't an option for me, anything that came out was inaudible.
My vision was slipping away as I attempted to grab a hold of any consciousness I had left.
Soon the pain became unbearable, and I let the darkness consume me.
