Aruna walked emotionless through the greenery of trees and bushes. She had a flower in her hair from a daisy she picked on the way and her bare feet crunched on the leaves of fall. It was cold with small patches of snow on the ground from the previous snow fall three days earlier. Despite the biting weather, she wore shorts and a tank top. Bracelets in beads and string slithered her arms. She hummed a small tune to herself as a final feeling of happiness was slowly increasing in her. She heard the whistle of the train in the distance and her stomach contained with more butterflies and her heart fluttered with them.

She fastened her pace and came to an opening. This wasn’t just any opening. No. It had train tracks running endlessly from right to left with an approaching train only three minutes away. She felt nothing at first when she stood and stared blankly at the tracks under her feet. She was numb like she has been for the past four years. Yet, as she heard the approaching chugs of the train coming closer, an odd emotion filled her. One she had never truly experienced until now: happiness accompanied with an ultimate alleviation. Peace. Peace for once in her hectic, chaotic life.

She stood in the middle of the train tracks as the bright light of the train approached and the sun was setting. The day would end just as she would.

She shook with not a burden of anxiety but the excitement and happiness. A smile grew on her face. The sound of the train’s whistle and chugs overcame the sound of the peaceful forest. At full speed, it came closer every second. Her ending was sixty feet away now and a once in a life time true smile grew on her face. “Finally,” She whispered in a quiet, weak voice. She counted down in her head as she closed her eyes. 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3-

Suddenly a force didn’t slam into her chest like she had been hoping for but from her shoulder then a soft warm impact on her chest after the feeling of flight over came her. She snapped her eyes open in a panic as she heard the train passing and she didn’t feel happy but let down. She ignored the person on her and shot up to jump under the train. Arms wrapped around her waist and held her weak body back from the train.

“No! Please, no! Please! Ahhhh,” She screamed hysterically as tears streamed down her face and the train was coming to an end. “Please,” She whispered as she sobbed, “that was my only chance.” The train was gone and so were any happy or relaxed feelings.

“I saved you,” the stranger said defensively.  She harshly turned to look at them with bury vision.

“I,” I didn’t want to be saved. She didn’t say anything and just turned away and ran.
