I walk down the road, the crisp autumn air making my hairs stand on edge. The leaves crunching beneath me, being the only sound. Today of all days, my friends drove, leaving me alone. I've know of my "special" power ever since the first time I saw it. It's face twisted with anger and fury, just waiting for the right time to unleash it. It's many teeth jagged and crooked, making the creature look even more menacing than it already is. At this time, I was six, and 10 years later it still follows me. I've since dubbed it Malachi. As I walk, I can already tell he's trailing a few yards behind me, getting closer and closer every time I round a corner. I instinctively go to my pocket, feeling my enchanted knife, given to me by my mother long ago. The hilt barely stays in the pocket, making it easier for me to grab it if need me. My school is looming the the distant. A tall safe haven from Malachi. Now on the verge of reaching the school, he starts running, and FAST. But I've been training for this.
I flip around instantly, jabbing the tip of the knife into his lower abdomen. He yields, but only for a moment. In less than a second his teeth are bared and he's back in full attack mode. You would think me, a five-foot-one girl would turn around and blast the fuck out of there, but no. I jab three more times, just trying to get him enough back so I can grab the full sword from my bag. He can sense what I'm doing, and dodges all but one stroke of my knife. It lands on his upper arm, and he flings his arm, with the knife still in it. The knife flies out of view, into the changing woods. I have barely enough time to grab my sword and cut off his leg. His leg already is beginning to grow by the time a put the sword back. I bolt of there, and run full speed to my school doors. Apparently, even though many people were going to and fro, no one noticed. I asked my friends at the front if they saw what happened, but they said all they saw was me, walking towards the school. Of course.
My classes are the sane as normal, boring and easy. I am in Track A classes, and everything is still too easy. I listen to each and every teacher drone on and on. In my fourth period (math), I happen to glance out the window and see Malachi. He is standing there, just staring at me, like he's waiting for the bell to ring. I have about 10 minutes until the lunch bell rings, and I always go out with friends to get a smoothie and sandwich. I sigh. In a few minutes, the bell rings, and I walk to my locker to grab money. I wait outside for my friends, at the bench next to where Malachi is standing. I pull out a small throwing knife from my bag and launch it at him. It hits him in the foot, and he walks away. "Bitch," I mutter. Oh, and I never mentioned that I see demons, and I am sworn into secrecy to protect and keep secret the jarring and dangerous world that lies in the dark, beyond a normal mortals field of vision. But I, Kate, am no normal mortal. I am a Protector.
. I .
Okay hi guys, and thanks for reading this (if you even do lol). I have been quiet on my other book, but this book I want to keep active. I hope to update every 2-3 days, due to my busy schedule (choir, school, blah blah blah). Okay stay tuned for the second chapter.
