"Hey," Trevor had caught up with me the next day.

"Hi," I said in an irritated voice.

"Listen, I know that I'm the last person you want to talk to but I figured that after last night you need a protector."

"I can protect myself."

"Clearly not," he referred to Ted kidnapping me.

"Well, who do you have in mind for this job?"

"I was hoping you would pick, yourself."

"I..."

"Hey Sarah!" Miranda came running over in her kitten heels. "Are you ready to go?"

"Go? Go where?" Trevor asked.

"It's nothing. Just..."

"Oh my gosh. Sarah, you never introduced me to your friend." She raised both eyebrows, sucked her stomach in, and reached for Trevor's hand. "Hi, I'm Miranda."

I couldn't help but laugh.

Trevor, of course being the nice guy he is, shook her hand. But when he did, his eyes grew wider and he let go of it quickly. It was like he was just electrocuted by her.

"Is something wrong?" Miranda asked.

"No, I, uh, have to get to the football field," he said as he looked at his hand as if it were a foreign object.

"I didn't know you played?" I asked.

"I don't. Me and some other guys who work on the photography section in the school newspaper have a "Homecoming Group Picture" to take of the team."

"Oh yeah. Homecoming is in two days." I was trying to lead him into asking me to go with him, but there was no magic happening.

"Well, I guess we'll see you later! C'mon Sarah we have to get going! Tina's closes at five!"

Trevor had a confused look on his face.

"It's just dress shopping. I may have gotten nominated as a homecoming princess, so now my "assistant" insists on picking out the perfect dress for the perfect night."

"Oh. I didn't think homecoming was up your alley, especially being a princess." he laughed.

A car horn honked.

"I guess we can talk later?"

"Sure."

And with that we went our separate ways.

Tina's is a very classy, elegant store, mixed with a ballerina dance studio. Mirrors cover every inch of every wall. Chandeliers hang from the ceiling, fake of course. And it just so happens to be owned by Miranda's aunt. That's how I got the discount.

"Good, now spin." Miranda motioned.

"Rands, I've spun in circles for two hours and only tried on four dresses."

"Your point is?"

"Why can't we just pick one and get out of here?"

"What, you don't like my store?" Tina asked as she strolled over.

"No. She just doesn't look good in any of these dresses."

All I could do was glare.

"Well maybe I can help." she pushed Miranda aside. "What are you looking for?"

I had to think long and hard about this question. "A red velvet dress with a sweetheart neckline and little rhinestones, also red, along the waist."

"I'll be right back."

About five minutes later, Tina reappeared with the exact dress I had for.

On our way to Miranda's car, she started talking about my "magical" dress.

"All I'm saying is that I think it's weird that she found you the perfect dress."

"And that's weird because?"

"It's weird because I combed through every dress in that shop, and not once did I find are like yours," we had stopped walking by this point.

"Well I think that you're just upset because I found a dress that you didn't pick out."

"Fine. If you don't want me to help you then so be it!" and she started walking away. I yelled at her as she got in her car and drove away.

There was only one person who I could call.

"Thanks for picking me up," I slid into Trevor's black SUV.

"Anytime. Hey, what time do you need to be home by?"

"Eight. Why?"

"Cause I have a surprise."

The surprise was a trip to Mt. Santiago, overlooking the whole city.

"Wow, this is beautiful. Do you come here often?"

"Nah. Not anymore. I used to with my parents when I was younger."

I nodded, "So, what happened to your parents?"

"They died on the Titanic."

"Really?"

"No." He laughed. "Dad forgot to pay the debt collectors, so they found us."

"Then how did you survive."

"I became the thing I am today."

The city is so beautiful at dusk. I couldn't keep my eyes off of it.

"You have all of this." He reached his arm out toward the city. "You have true friends, parents, your life ahead of you. I have nothing."

"You have me. Isn't that enough?"

"Not even close."

I'll be honest, I was taken aback by this comment.

"Well, I'm not sure Miranda's my friend anymore."

"And why's that?"

"She freaked out over the fact that her aunt found me the perfect dress for homecoming."

Trevor looked confused.

"She thinks that the dress is magical or something."

"Huh." Now he looked away from me.

"Oh c'mon. Please tell me that magic doesn't exist."

"It does, but I didn't think it did around here."

"Ugh." I slapped my forehead.

"Hey I've been meaning to ask you something..."

"What?" I asked hoping that him bringing me here was a romantic scene so that he could ask me to homecoming.

"If I were to ask Miranda to homecoming would you be upset?"

"No. Why are you going with her, not to be rude or anything?" I was shocked.

"Werewolves can sense when there's a magical presence around. So if I dance with her maybe I can find out if she has a witch gene in her."

Later that night while I was doing my homework, Miranda called saying that Trevor had asked her to homecoming.

"Can you believe it?!" she squealed on the other end of the phone. I could believe it.
