The guard yawned in chronic boredom.
Slow days at the museum always resulted in slow, never-ending nights. Shadows simply melted off walls and became lazy mush on the floors, while the exhibits all sat or stood slouching in boredom.Another yawn. Was it always this boring? No; there was a time when being a night guard was fun. He had been assigned here by his precinct a few months back, hoping to get him more experience.
The constant suspense, the dark, lingering shadows, and the exhibits coming to life in your mind. It was like being a kid again, only better. But the magic lost its touch after a few months. Now the suspense was like a blaise, predictable movie, shadows plastic and stiff from overuse, exhibits dead.
Yep, life was boring again.
The guard picked up his phone and taped it to play FNAF. Lately he had been wishing he had been the guard in that game instead. Sure, there were vengeful animatronics after you, but at least it was interesting.
After another two hours and winning the game once, the guard heard a small sound.
Ping.
The guard shook his head; just something falling off of an exhibit. The place was so old that just within the first couple night's the guard had found three fallen and two broken pieces. He was very upset to see artifacts not taken care of with the utmost importance. Now when he did rounds he often cleaned up and and positioned the exhibits so they would break.
"They seriously need someone to maintain this place," he mumbled to himself. Before he could go back to his game though, another sound resonated behind him.
"You could say that sir. But, then, it wouldn't be as fun for me."
The guard whirled around, knocking his chair over. About five feet away from him was another guard. He had orange hair and yellow cat eyes. He wasn't a new nor old guard that the other recognized.
"Um, w-who are you?" the guard stuttered, shaken by this young man's sudden presence.
"Your replacement. I'm guessing you weren't told," he replied. "I was told to come and tell you your free for the rest of the night."
The guard, blinking, replied. "No, who are you sir?"
"Alvaro Lee; recruited two days ago." Alvaro flashed a badge.
The other guard looked at it, seeing the shine of laminated plastic and the face of the young man. He himself had been absent from his job the day Alvaro was recruited. It was quite possible that his shift didn't start yet and that was why the guard had yet to see him.
"Wait, why are you in at this time of night?" he took the badge and gave it a thorough look over. "You should've been in the back and slept till I came and woke you up. It's what we do here."
"I'm new here Mr. ... Kokonose. I wouldn't know these things.
True, the guard thought. "I apologize."
"It's alright," Alvaro smiled, waving it off. "If you don't mind though, I'd love to get on the job now."
The guard smiled. "Obliged. Have a good night. Here's the keys and everything. Thank you!"
Alvaro smiled and waved a goodbye. "You too! And you're welcome; trust me, this is a dream job for me."

"How could you just let someone be your replacement without running a crossover over him!?"
Haruka shamefully stared at the ground instead of at his commander's eyes. "I really am sorry ma'am. I was just..."
