Chapter Five
There are no Prince Charming's in the real world, there are no super hero's or knights in shining armor.
Instead, I had a raging baseball bat wielding 5'3 Violet to come to my rescue, even if it was too late. Even if I had already been touched and marked, with blood staining my clothes and pounding in my head, she had saved me.
The sound of a grunt and a thump to the floor had made my eyes open wide, they stung but through the fluttering lids I could see a panting girl over me in the hallway, the bat from the coat closet gripped tight in her hands and a hard body thrown across the floor beside me.
"Oh shit." She gasps, her voice a quiver, and her breath rattling with each intake. The bat drops the to floor with a clang and rolls over to an outstretched hand where the grip had loosened from my wrist.
Colton lay passed out next to me, his hands bloodied and pants pulled just below his ass, and my own clothes twisted and pulled around me. He had beaten me, I could feel every part of my body screaming, I could feel a sticky liquid over my stomach and amongst the panic and pain I sigh with relief that she had stopped him from taking something from me that would ruin me. I had let him take my innocence 3 years ago, I wouldn't let him do it again, I couldn't cope if he did.
He had just made me dirty, disgusting and used all over again, how could I hold my son when I know my skin is impure, how could I let Nash touch me when I'm tainted. Oh shit, Nash, he will hate me, he will leave me and everything we had built will crumble. I can't lose him.
"Rora, answer me, please answer me." Violet is by my side now, bringing a blanket to cover me as I shake, my eyes search her worried glass eyes shimmering with tears.
"Archer. Don't let him see." I mutter as I sob, curling myself up away from the man that haunted my dreams.
"We won't Rora, I've called the police, but we need to move." She pulls me up, her arms around my shoulders and her phone in the other hand.
"No. Don't please, Vi, you can't let them know." The fear strikes within me, I couldn't let anyone find out what he had done, we had to do something.
"Then what do we do?" she asks drawing back on her heels looking to me then to Colton on the floor.
By the time the police arrive I had moved on autopilot with Violet to organize a plan on what happened, not just for my sake but for my son's sake too. On the floor in the hall lay Colton, his pants fastened again, cuffs on his wrists and a large bump on his head. I had changed clothes and washed off as much of him as I could before they came, but as I sat on the couch staring into the air in front of me I could still feel his hands on my wrists, the impact of the kicks to my sides and the sting of my cheek and neck.
Violet stands with Archer in her arms, a hand resting protectively on her belly. "He had pinned her to the floor, she was all beaten and the door was open so I grabbed the baseball bat she keeps in the closet and hit him."
"How did you know she had this bat? Why was that your choice of weapon?" the officer writes down something on his little pad in his hand and Archer makes a squeal towards me.
"She has it for such occasion, this isn't the first time he's bothered her. It was the first thing I thought of, I'm pregnant I couldn't exactly fight him off." Her words make me snap out of staring into nothing.
"Really?" I gasp, my words catch in my throat. "You're pregnant and you did that for me?" my eyes flicker to the hallway where they are trying to bring Colton round.
"I didn't even question it." she shrugs and holds Archer out to me.
"I can't." I shake my head, tears slipping my eyes as Archer makes a wine tears from his eyes and he kicks to get free from Violets arms.
"Miss would you feel comfortable coming to the station with us for your statement and to take pictures of you injuries? Regardless of pressing charges this will be taken in evidence, he has broken various court orders and is already wanted for arrest; unfortunately not every girl was lucky enough to have a friend like you." The office winces as he says it, he's one of the older men talking to us, his salt and peppered hair shows his age and the stress lines on his face show his past.
Other girls, I knew he had done this to others, I knew he had a wife too... I just couldn't believe he would do this to so many, so many innocent girls. Does that mean Archer has biological half brothers or sisters? How many others girls were there?
"She'll go." This time the voice is from the doorway. It makes me stiffen and try to wipe the tears from my cheeks away frantically.
Violet finally lets Archer go and straight into Nash's arms. "Hey buddy, look what I got you." He smiles kissing him on the top of his head and pulling a movie from behind his back to show my son. I watch dazed as he puts it on and sets Archer down with some cookies and milk in a sippy cup.
But when he turns back to me his eyes are cold and hard, angry, his fists clench and jaw tenses. "What the fuck happened here?"
