It took every ounce of my courage to finally open the door in front of me.
"Oh great! I'm stuck with a nerd and a goth," Someone said as I entered my new room. It came from a girl sitting on a bed beside the window. She had blonde hair, tanned skin and blue eyes; the baby blue crop top she was wearing exposed her toned stomach. "How can my life get any worse?"
I've been in this campus for about 15 minutes and this is the welcoming party I get. This was not how I expected college would be. Being slightly insulted by one of my new roommates was not on my list of things I wanted to happen.
"Forgive her. She needs an attitude adjustment." Another girl said. This one had her brown hair sitting on a messy bun on top of her head with the same colored eyes to match. "I'm Kylie, by the way." She extended her hand. I took it and we exchanged a firm hand shake. "The ball of charming over there is Sarah. Her reaction was worse when she saw me."
Although what she said was supposed to comfort me, it didn't. I knew she was trying to be nice but I'd rather not have anyone pay attention to me at all. I'm not a social person which is why I got ticked off when I was assigned to a three person room instead of a single one.
"Keira Lane." I looked over to the blonde and she just shrugged, not offering any apology. "I'm not goth," I firmly stated, directing it to nobody. I wasn't going to let anyone think I'm goth just because I'm currently wearing black.
"Ah, but your thick eye liner, purple highlights and black clothes beg to differ," Sarah bluntly said. I shouldn't have worn black today, I thought. I just realized that it adds up to the 'gothic' look. But this girl slowly was getting on my nerves.
Kylie snapped her head towards Sarah's direction. "Shut up and be polite," she scolded. I silently thanked her for defending me.
"Whatever, mom," She rolled her eyes. "You can't tell me what to do. Besides, she looks like she's gonna kidnap us at midnight and sacrifice us to her gods."
"Sarah!"
She looked up from painting her nails and glared at Kylie. "It's true! Look at her! I wouldn't be surprised if we see her stash of needles and voodoo dolls."
At that point, I got so furious and something in me snapped. "What the hell is wrong with you? Can you be a little less rude? I mean, we just met so don't judge me, alright? Since you've willingly said what you think about me, I'll say what I think about you to be fair. I think you're a disrespectful person and judging from the way you're dressed, you get drunk and get banged all the time. Am I correct?"
"You bitch!" She stood up and tried to tackle me but Kylie held her back.
Now this is definitely unexpected. Who gets into a fight on her first day at a different state? This just shows how messed up my life is. One minute I was perfectly invisible and happy, the next I'm getting dissed by someone I just met.
"Both of you, shut up! I will report both of you if you continue this," Kylie shouted. "Sarah, try your best to be respectful! If anyone's the bitch here, then it's you because you started this." Sarah pushed Kylie away but remained in her place with a pissed off look. "And Keira, I'm letting this go cause you just defended yourself. Can we please be at peace in this dorm?"
