Don't You Remember
The bell rang and the classroom erupted into movement. Students stuffed their textbooks and laptops into their backpacks and hurried out of the room.
Unlike her classmates, Olivia calmly walked over to her locker and unlocked it. A tall shadow covered the locker beside her.
"Hey," she said without looking. She didn't need to turn around to know that it was Harry.
"Hey, I have something to tell you..." he said. Olivia turned away from her locker to face her boyfriend.
"Good news or bad news..." she said, trailing off upon seeing the look her boyfriend's face.
"Olivia, I don't know how to say this..." Harry started.
"Is it about us? Did I do something wrong?" Olivia asked, fear clear in her eyes.
Harry shook his head. "I'm going to the X-Factor."
Olivia grinned. "That's great!"
Harry sighed and continued. "So I don't think you'll ever see me again. Or at least not for a long time. Liv, I think... no, I know we're great together, but I just think we have to end this now... Before we get too attached."
Olivia's eyes widened in shock. "But Harry..."
"I'll be gone for a long time. I don't even know if I'll be coming back. I want you to be free. I want to breakup so you can date whoever you want while I'm gone, without feeling guilty," Harry said. Tears formed in her eyes.
"I think I understand..." she said.
Harry gave her a small, pained smile. "Thank you."
"So this is it, I guess?" she asked.
He nodded. "Unfortunately. I'm leaving tomorrow..."
"Okay, well..." she said, trying to keep herself from crying, "Bye and good luck. I know you'll do great, Harry."
Harry smiled. "Thanks. You'll do fine here without me, you always have. Good luck to you too."
She nodded. "Bye."
She turned away from him to face her locker, tears streaming down her face. How could her boyfriend do this to her? He knew that she needed him and now he was leaving her. Leaving everything they had, behind.
"I'm sorry, I just think it'll be better for us," he whispered, his breath tickling her ear. She felt something blow up inside her, and she just couldn't hold it in anymore.
"You always think that everything you do is for the best of us. I bet you're dumping me so you can date all those hot celebrities, right? I'm right, aren't I? Aren't I?!" she demanded, whirling around to face him.
"Olivia, I love you more than anything. I'd do anything for you, even if it meant risking my own life for yours," he whispered, his green eyes dull.
"If you'd do anything for me, you'd stay here! You wouldn't leave to become famous. Everyone has priorities and clearly, becoming famous is at the top of your list," she said angrily.
"I didn't have a choice!" he yelled.
She shook her head disapprovingly. "You always have a choice."
She turned away from him, facing her locker with her head down. She quickly wiped the tears away with the back of her hand and transferred her books from her backpack to her locker.
"Olivia, you don't understand..." he said.
She let out a short, painful laugh. "Of course I don't understand."
