It was a cold and rainy October morning when I was speeding to my new job. It was my first day and I was already going to be late. I had only talked to my boss, Jordan, a couple of times over the phone so I had no clue how he would react to my oversleeping this morning. I almost missed my turn into the office building flooded parking lot. I ran quickly into the building and was greeted by a dainty girl with brown hair and a warm smile.
"Hi, my name is Stefani. You must be the new intern," she held out her hand.
I shook her hand kind of surprised she hadn't mentioned my being late, "Yeah, I'm Alex." She giggled which left me with a confused expression.
"The guys are upstairs," she looked back down to a paper in front of her as I hesitated to make my way upstairs. I had no clue what I was walking into. Jordan had just told me to try out the job for a month and if I didn't like it I didn't have to stay but if I did he wanted me on board full time. He had seen what I do through YouTube, I made regular videos whenever possible. When he contacted me however I honestly didn't watch any of the creatures channels regularly. I had only heard of them.
As I made my way to the stairs I heard a loud voice yelling at someone, "What the hell Jordan!?" I tiptoed up the stairs and followed the voice until I found myself at the entrance of a long hallway looking at a few men gathered around an office door. One of them with blue eyes, messy light brown hair stuffed under a red cap, and a small fluffy beard turned to look at me. He looked familiar to me but I stood there in silence as the other guys turned to look my way.
A different man with insanely curly dark hair walked over to me and held out his hand, "Hi intern, I'm James," he said proudly.
I shook his hand cautiously and answered back sarcastically, "Hi James, I'm intern." I earned a chuckled from a couple of the guys standing in the background including the one I had recognized.
Another guy with a very noticeable bald line in his eyebrow turned his head around an office door. He pointed at me angrily, "Is this the one who stole my name?"
The one with the red cap spoke up suddenly, "Aleksandr meet Alexandria. Aleks, Alex." He gestured to both of us while I slowly walked closer to them.
"I'm Dex," a British fellow waved at me appearing next to Aleks.
The one in the red cap smiled at me finally announcing his name, "I'm Jordan." He didn't really look like a man in charge but there was something hiding underneath his skin that seemed demanding.
I felt a cold breath on the back of my neck and jumped slightly turning to face a man in a chicken mask. He took it off and giggled, exposing bright white teeth and patting my shoulder lightly, "I'm Joe."
Jordan spoke up again, clearing his throat awkwardly, "Everyone else is in their offices. I can give you a quick tour around the place."
I smiled and nodded but Joe was quick to interrupt, whining, "I wanted to show her the office."
Jordan sighed and motioned for me to follow him, "Get back to work Joe." I walked over to Jordan's side as the other guys slid back into their offices. He took me to each office and introduced me to Dan, Artist Joe, Spencer, and Aron. He told me all about Seamus and how he was hoping and everyone else was hoping for him to return soon. He showed me where my office would be and I went inside dropping my things lightly in the chair behind my desk, looking outside the large window. The sky was dark even though it was late morning. The rain had stopped but it still looked eerie in the cold air. Jordan was in the doorway when he spoke silently, "It's rather beautiful for a terrible morning."
I turned to him abruptly and smirked, "I guess so."
He gulped loudly and looked back and forth through the hallway, "I'll leave you to this place then. Make yourself comfortable, mess around with stuff if you want." Suddenly all of the lights illuminating the hallway shut down and turned off. I looked around kind of confused as Jordan crinkled his eyebrows and cocked his head to one side causing his red cap to fall to the ground which he left there. I heard multiple groans and grumbles.
I followed Jordan as he turned to walk down the hallway and Joe approached us with a camera in hand, "Jordan, the power went out. Why did the power go out?" Jordan walked towards Dex's office nervously as Dan complained about the emergency lights not being on. We were surprised to see Dex's monitors working just fine as he tried to convince us the power was not out. He yelled at us to get out as he recorded and I innocently obliged.
Spencer walked up to us and whined, "I was trying to have a nice lunch and the power went out." Joe showed us how only half of the computers stayed on while all of the lights were completely shut off. Jordan walked back towards my office exiting with his hat back on has Dan considered this being the rapture.
I leaned against the wall next to Jordan as he turned and smiled at me, "Welcome to the office, I hope this doesn't scare you away too much."
I chuckled and looked down the hallway towards Dan who was now bringing a lightsaber from his office to illuminate the hallway, "A little dark never hurt anybody." I strolled to my office and sat inside alone for awhile working on a drawing. I had quite awhile to finish up some things quietly that I needed to do. I was interrupted when I heard a demonic noise and some of the guys screaming. Jordan pushed my door open slowly and started making the demonic noise again. I laughed at him and threw a crinkled up piece of paper his way. I hadn't even realized I had spent 3 hours alone in my office. The other guys followed him inside my office and found a place to sit and chat awhile.
"I think we'll be locked in here because the doors are electric right?" Joe asked innocently.
Aleks rested in one of the giant bears, "Maybe that was someone's plan, to keep us all in here."
"Like in a teenage horror flick," Dan's eyes widened, "The killer gets all of his victims in one area and confines them there before picking them off one by one."
I looked around suspiciously at the guys who were far too knowledgable on the subject. Jordan saw my fear and interrupted, "If a killer wanted us all dead why has he waited 3 hours to pick us off."
Stefani started counting everyone in the room but Aleks rolled his eyes and cut her off, "We're all here Stefani. Why would a killer kill in plain sight. Obviously he'd wait until dark. It's not as easy to see the killer nor the already killed victims." Everyone got silent suddenly. "Everybody just keep an eye on Alex," he started again, "nothing weird happened before she got here."
"Something weird happens everyday," Jordan retorted annoyed with Aleks. He place an icy cold hand on my knee cap and patted it lightly which sent a shiver up my spine making me twitch in my seat. He looked around at the quiet group and shrugged, "If we all stay together nothing like that could happen now could it Aleks."
Aleks leaned back into the bear more, "Sticking together sounds fine by me." Everyone nodded in agreement with him. Jordan squeezed my knee lightly before letting go and I looked at him a little confused.
He leaned back in his seat, "Let's get ready for a long night boys."
