A blinding light.
Its pulling me towards it, as I am unable to move or speak or breathe.
But something in my body will not let me go to the light.
The light disappears and I snap awake.
The first thing that catches me off guard is the fact that I am alive.
Breathing, healthy, "OW!"
Searing pains suddenly shoot through my body. Every inch of my skin is enflamed with pain.
I glance down at my chest ans stomach.
Blisters and bumps are overcrowding my skin, each oozing it's own design of smelly green liquid.
"I survived." I say out loud, almost not believing it.
My gaze wanders to a movement beside me.
Ava is in the same condition as me, pale and fragile.
But alive.
"Br-brielllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllle?" She asks, slurring her words.
I am about to say something but a object distracts me.
A small white parachute rains down onto my the ground next to Ava and I.
It takes every ounce of muscle I have to reach for it and open the container.
So close.
-Mistatla
Mistatia is our mentor.
A creamy yellow lotion is placed inside a circular box.
"Mmmmmmmmmeeeeeddiccee?" Ava breathes out.
I nod uncontrollably and my fingers fumble to open the lid.
The smell is horrifying.
I gag and stick my fingers in.
The texture is smooth and thick. I grab a chunk of it and slather it onto my legs.
I scream in relief. The feeling is so satisfying, so pure I feel like melting right on the spot. I grab anoter handful and spread it onto everything else.
Ava watches me, too weak to move.
After I finish I crawl to her and help her put it on her arms.
She moans and grabs the container from my hands.
After she manages to finish, we both get up and grab our now-torn bags.
"Where's Luis?" Ava asks.
I shrug and look around.
Not here.
Ava and I search for about a quarter of a mile around our general area.
Still nothing.
We decide to pick up on it later and make camp.
I find a good clearing about two miles away.
Ava says she wants to set up the camp. I decide to go hunting for dinner.
About five minutes later, I am crouched my eye on a large deer, it's horns raising about a foot and half above its head.
A cannon booms.
I gasp, scaring the deer away.
I sprint back to our clearing.
"Ava! Ava!"
I burst into camp.
Ava is kneeling on the ground her head crouched between her knees. I hear her crying.
"Ava,"
Her head whips to look at me.
A deep gash runs from her nose to the bottom of her neck.
"What happened?" I choke out.
"The Careers came," She shudders, "They started to attack, stole all of our bags and weapons. I started to defend myself but Alana ripped a knife down my face. In shock, I grabbed my ax off the ground and planted it in her head."
