Chapter 6:
My eyes scan her face closely for a second before it clicks.
"Auntie Sofee!" I squeal, jumping upwards and hugging her. She laughs and hugs me back happily, rubbing her hand up and down my back. That's what happened before the attic. It all fit together like pieces of a puzzle, it clicked. She was the one who had taught me how to simply talk, watched me walk, but I didn't remember her. It makes me feel so bad I couldn't remember the person who had once cared for me.
But why didn't I stay with her? Questions fill my mind, but they can be answered later. Hopefully.
"I'm so happy to see you fiore! Please please, come with me!" She cheers, summoning me to the back. Nathan follows behind awkwardly, probably wondering what to do. We go up a enclosed dusty staircase, arriving in a hallway. All the lights are out, the only source of light is the sunset form the window at the end of the hallway. It remind some of home, or that's what it used to be. I'm far away from it now, there's no going back. Strangely, I don't feel empty. I feel free, exactly how I wanted. But I know I will have a long way to go to.
"Come in!" Aunt Sofee opens a velvet colored door.
The room has beige walls, a nice lounging area and kitchen. The couches are a nice red, and everything rude such as desks are a dark brown colored wood. The lounging area has a a dark wooden floor and the kitchen area has black and white tile. There's a small vase on the coffee table, reminding me of how I hit that guy with that vase. And I met Nathan, and now I'm here. How does this place bring so many memories and reminders of what's been happening the past few days.
"This is our la casa, I don't think you'll remember much of it though fiore." Sofee says opening her arms, introducing us to her home. I honestly don't remember the home, just the feeling of it.
"I love it Aunt Sofee." I say warmly, clasping my hands together. She smiles warmly and looks towards Nathan.
"Who's this Hope, and where is your Mother?" She questions, a smile still evident on her face.
"This is Nathan, and she's not with me." I say, shaking slightly. I love her, but did she have to bring that up with the recent events? She suddenly looks very confused.
"But then where's your Mother? She wouldn't just let you outside without her by your side." Aunt Sofee questions. She doesn't know what happened...
"Auntie, Momma is dead." I whisper, lowering my head. Her eyes widen, and realization hits her like a semi truck. Her arms start shaking like an earthquake. Tears start streaming siren her face as little hiccups erupt from her.
"I told her to get away from that puttana! But she didn't listen, being so testarda! Why couldn't she have listened!?" Sofee wails, burying her face in her hands. Valentina guides her to the couch, rubbing her back. Though I doubt she knows what's happening. She starts saying multiple sentences in Italian. The sight of Harry like this, on our reunion... makes my heart break.
"I'm sorry Aunt Sofee." I apologize. She could've had a better day, she didn't need to know Momma died.
"It's alright, it wasn't your fault. B-But tell me Hope, h-how and when did she d-die?" She questions, trying her best not to stutter and bust into more tears.
