A new family and hope

We were walking with silence in the dark night, however it wasn't awkward. The man who is supposed to be my father was holding my hand all the way and kept turning his head to me with a smile, telling me that my new mother is going to like me so much. I couldn't help but to feel pain in my heart whenever he said so. It feels like I have  betrayed my family, for them to die in order to protect me and then leave them like that. Now I am going to be living with a new family, but it is just like what he said, they want me to be happy so they will forgive me right?

We finally arrived  to what is supposed to be my new home where I will finally meet my new mother.

"Here we are Y/n. This is your new home," he said as he takes a key-chain from his jacket pocket and to open the door.

As he entered the house I remained standing outside, hesitating to enter. I really want my mum and dad right now. He turned to me.

"Y/n won't  you come in?  You have had enough for today, you need to rest! Plus if you keep standing outside you will catch a cold."

I refused to look at him in the eyes so I avert my gaze to the ground, bangs covering my eyes as I start shaking.
'Mum, dad what should I do now? I don't know what to do without you. Is this really the right choice? I don't even know who this man is, what am I supposed to do from now on? I am all alone now in this world, I even may not able to see Mikasa anymore'. A sudden voice snapped me off as I heard Degenhard calling for me.
"Y/n."  I lifted my head up and focused my eyes on his sapphire ones. He was holding his hand out for me with a sad smile.
"Come please? I promise I will protect you from now on."
For a moment I did not say anything but then his smile gets wider.
"Come on, I am a soldier after all! I know how to protect my loved ones."
"A soldier?" I asked in awe.
His smile transformed into a big grin and I can tell that he was proud of his job and saluted, putting his right hand into a fist and placing it to where his heart is, the other arm behind his back.
" Yes! A soldier is someone who will protect his dreams, family and friends, he carries his dead comrades will. He is someone who will offer his soul and heart to his dear ones just like what I did when I saved you. Well you are still too young to understand that..."
"How come that you care about me and saved me when you don't even know me?"
"Uh, well when you see someone in need it's human nature to jump and help them, but actually not all people would do that. It's my job after all, as a soldier to protect people. Now won't you come in?"
He holds his hand to me again, I totally forget that I was outside. With a small slow moves I reached my hand out for him, and he grabs it and pulled me with one move. I closed my eyes and was about to fall, but his hand was grabbing mine and my head hit against his stomach, he put his other hand on my shoulder I opened  my eyes to look at him as his sapphire  eyes met with my f/c eyes, he was giving me his usual cheerful smile.
"Welcome to your new home Y/n!"
I was lost in his eyes, this cheerful man is my father now, but how can he be so happy in this cruel world?
" Y/n I promise to be a great father to you from now on! You can count on me, my cute daughter." He said this a little bit louder, and my heart skipped a beat when he called me his daughter.
"I-" A feminine voice interrupts me.
"Degenhard is that you?" I could tell from the voice that the woman was a little bit scared of something. I heard footsteps approach us.

"Degenhard! How many times did I tell you not to leave me in this late time of night?! Do you know how scared I was? And why are you so loud? Were you talking to yourself again?"
I couldn't see the woman because her husband's body was in my way, but I could tell that she was scared and angry from her tone.
"Oh, Aili sorry sorry I won't do it again," he turned his head to her.
"That's what you always say!" She snapped at him, but with a softer voice now.
I finally gathered the courage to peek my head to see the woman. She was a young yet beautiful with green eyes, like a doll, and shoulder length wavy blond hair. When she looked at me then she froze in her tracks.
"Degenhard... Who is this behind you?" She asked like she was afraid of the answer.
"Oh yeah, this one... She is my daughter."
He said as he pushed me before him and kneels behind me, putting his hands on my shoulders with a smile. The woman's eyes get wider and a shocked expression wrote itself on her beautiful face as she took a step back.
"Y-you! H-how dare you!? And you say this with a smile? How dare you say this with a smile?!"
I was scared of her actions... She doesn't  seem happy at all.
'I should have known she may not like me! It seems it was a bad choice to come here after all.' A dump confused expression was written on her husband's face.
"What's wrong, I thought you will be happy when I t-t-t-tell you! W-WAIT! Don't tell me! No, No, it is not like that I swear! I adopted her that's it!" He stood up and ran away, scared once he realized the reason behind her panic and approached her putting both his hands on her shoulder while she strbruises ont him.
"Stop lying, that's  why you almost everyday come home go out at a later time right, I thought you were just walking! That is why you never listened to me when I told you not to do that, right?!"
"No, of course not like that, I swear!"
"Then what is it, huh?"
"Her parents got killed by traffickers! I saved her, she has no home her relatives are too poor to take care of her! The military police were about to give her to an orphanage so I adopted her." He whispered to her so I can't hear him talking about my parents. When she heard that she stopped struggling with widened eyes.
"D-does that mean she is now o-our-"
"Yes she is our daughter!"
She suddenly pushed him away and ran towards me.
"H-hey!" I gasped and was about to run but she stopped me with a strong embrace, while I froze in my place. She buried her face in my hair and whispered "Thank god" which made me panic more when I remembered when mum hugged me and whispered the same words to me when I was late. Degenhard was starting at us and sighing in relief.
"What's your name dear?" She asked me in a sweet way, gazing in my eyes.
"Y-y/n"
"Oh Y/n! What a beautiful name! I am Aili, your mother now, and of course you don't have to call me that now, but know that whenever you need me I will always be there for you okay?! And OH MY GOD WHAT IS THIS?!"
She screamed when she saw the bruises on my face she quickly pulled me and let me sit on a couch then she disappeared somewhere inside the house.
Degenhard then approached me and sat next to me. He kept staring while I avoided  him I can tell he was smiling. He then starts playing with my hair. I was so shy so I moved a little away from him, but that didn't stop him. He put on hand on my cheek, grazing it gently. His hand was cold and the distance between us made me nervous and afraid more. I have never met a stranger in my life until now however, this guy and his wife have a nice aura around them. That still didn't stop me from being nervous around them.
"Y/n-"
I get more nervous when he starts talking to me, but to my luck his wife returned with alcohol and bandages to treat me. She then kneels on the floor before starting to help me. I flinched a little when alcohol touched my bruises. She bandaged my hand. After that she took me to a small room similar to my old room. Degenhard was flowing us. A bed, chair and a table were in the room but the only difference that there was a book shelf.
They left me to sleep but it was really hard. Bad dreams about my parents and Mikasa's family kept me awake.

The next morning Aili woke me up she gave me a new dress and led me to the bathroom to take a bath. During breakfast I didn't eat a lot, both Aili and Degenhard kept talking to me to get to know me and asking me questions, but that brought back memories of my parents so they stopped. It seemed like Degenhard has the day off.
Not after too long the door knocked  and she he opened it. I was surprised to see Mikasa and her parents. In the morning they saw military police in my home and the door was broken so when they asked they didn't want to answer them but Mikasa's father told them they are our relatives so they told them the story and about Degenhard adopting me because of their lack of money to take care of me and gave them the address to my new house. They hugged me and stayed for too long but the couple didn't mind. They even told them to come whenever they want to, but actually they didn't like the idea of some strange people taking care of me when they can't.
After a long time they were gone although Mikasa didn't want to go. She was so worried about me me and my new parents I had to assure her that I would be alright and that they will take care of me.
Aili then started teaching me cooking simple things and I started to open more towards her, while Degenhard kept trying to steal from us which made Aili get angry so he had to run and she was chasing him. I couldn't help but to break into a laugh which surprised them. They then smiled happily, realizing that I am more relaxed with them now. They did not know I was actually  remembering my family and I didn't tell them. I remembered what Degenhard told me about my parents wanting me to be always happy. I felt more hope however that doesn't mean I forgot them or I am fine now. I was still hurt, but Mikasa and her parents visit made me more cheerful because I now know I am still able to see them, however there was something I am very sure of,

"I really like my new family," I whispered.

"What did you say Y/n?" Asked Degenhard as him and his wife stare at me with questioning look. They could swear they heard me say something that was going to make them happy. I just smiled at them in response to them happily, which made them feel relief seeing me feel better now.
"Nothing!"
