Chapter 9

When I woke up in the morning, I was pleased to see that I had been right, and that where I had been slapped the night before was almost completely invisible – a little concealer covered it right up.

I saw that Laurane was already and awake and dressed, and now she was curling her hair. For a second, I was worried that I had overslept by far, and I had a brief panic attack, but when I looked at the clock, I saw that it was only seven.

“What’s the deal with getting up so early?” I asked, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. Usually I didn’t even up until right before classes started. That was actually a part of why my teachers didn’t like me so much – I was usually too busy sleeping to even show up for class, and when I did manage to show up, I was really tired.

Laurane just shrugged her shoulders and said, “I couldn’t sleep, and I wanted to look good today, so I decided to get up early.”

Well, I guessed that was as good of a reason as any other.

I didn’t bother replying as I staggered off towards the bathroom. I walked in and took an extra long shower, dozing off the whole time.

When I finally got out, I got dressed in black ripped skinny jeans, a blue tank top, a ripped up Avenged Sevenfold t-shirt, and a black Ugg boots.

I straightened and teased my hair, and after all of that, I looked pretty good. I guessed that waking up early really did pay off.

When I was finally all ready to go, Laurane was waiting patiently by the door. She had been ready for the last twenty minutes.

“It’s about time,” she said jokingly.

My response was to simply stick out my tongue like a five-year-old.

Laurane and I walked out to the hallway, nearly running into Mia, our friend who had told me about Laurane and Jesse at the party the other night, in doing so.

Laurane and I both really liked her, and she liked us, too.

“Hey Mia,” I said cheerfully, “What’s up?”

Mia looked at Laurane and I, looking surprised about something.

“Not much,” she said, “I was just coming down to tell you, Sammi, about some girl named Carly.”

Laurane groaned, and I braced myself for whatever Mia was going to say next.

“Okay…” I said hesitantly.

Mia looked like she didn’t really want to tell me, but she was good enough of a friend that she did anyways.

“Carly Reynolds has been telling people that she’s going to ‘beat your ass’ for fooling around with–”
