                  1 Month Later
I stood there, staring down at the Holy grail of teenage mistakes. Monroe knocked on the door timidly. "Whit it's been ten minutes". I looked back down at the pink and white life destroyer, a thousand thoughts and possibilities running through my head, yet I felt numb. "Yeah, I'm just waiting for the results to change". I shook the stick, periodically checking the stick between shakes. " Roe. Two lines mean yes, one line means no right," I asked. "Yeah, so how many lines babe," he asked through the door. I stood there for what seemed like hours, then Monroe opened the door.
"Whitaker," he paused looking at the stick in my hand, he was so close I could feel his breath on the back of my neck. "Oh Whit, I um,  I... just um damn... I," he stammered slowing back away and pacing, back and forth. This went on for a while him stammering and me standing there waiting for the results to change. Then Monroe brought me into a hug, emotion came over me as I began to cry. I'm not ready, we can't be parents I just, oh my God! What if Monroe didn't want it?! How in the----
"Whit, baby, we're gonna be great parents. I love you," he said interrupting my thoughts, and soothing my worries.
         * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
"Oh honey, it's not so bad," Naedal said looking at me with sad eyes. I heard her mumble something with her head down before Monroe's dad spoke. "Not so bad, huh? Are you fucking kidding me?! They're ju----,"
"Do not ever talk to my wife like that, especially not in our home," Lee said through clenched teeth. "We all know they're young---,"
"And dumb," chimed Monroe's twenty-five year old step mom Amanda.
"Quiet, adults are talking," Naedal snapped.
Amanda crossed her arms over her chest, and looked over at Sajem,  Monroe's dad.
"You can't let her talk to my wife like that," spat Sajem.
My mother stood. "Please," She said calmly "If you have something to say to me, say it to me. Furthermore, I don't think the irresponsible behavior of our children needs to be reprimanded by someone that missed them in high school by a hair. If we are going to talk to our children about making wise choices, there should be a degree of wisdom in the room, which is lessened simply by her presence, so I invited someone who can actually contribute to the conversation."
Oh snap mom!
"You didnt, you wouldn't dare," spoke Sajem, he eyed Naedal with contempt. She raised her hand in objection just as the doorbell rang.
Ding dong
The room fell silent as Lee stood up going down the hallway towards the door. I heard a family female voice at the door. As they came back around the corner into the living room where we were all gathered Amanda's face fell, Sajem turned bright red and Monroe tightened his grip on my hand. I groaned inwardly when I saw her face.
Damn damn damn damn damn.
"Hello all," Aretolla said looking around the room at all of us, or should I say over all of us. She walked with regalia, like she was a Queen and we were just lowly peasants. I cleared my throat.
"Ah, Whitaker Evans, the girl after my sons virginity,  and apparently his firstborn."
I looked at my hands, knotting them together. She turned towards Amanda.
"You," she said jutting her chin out. "Why are you still here, as if you have some sort of authority here? Don't you know you're not needed or wanted by anyone other than my idiot ex-husband, who apparently likes children." The way she said this wasn't really a question but more of a statement. Sajem's face flushed an even deeper red as Amanda's lip began to quiver.
God she really is a child.
"Dammit Aretolla that's enough!" Spoke Sajem as he sprang
to his feet. "If you can't treat me or my wife with respect then we really don't need to be here! Let's go babe," he said as he took Amanda's hand and rushed to the hallway, moments later we heard the door slammed as the odd couple left.
"Aretolla you always make quite the entrance," Lee said getting up to pour three glasses of wine.
"Well I do try," she said sitting down. She crossed her legs, sitting in the corner of the couch she leaned back pointing a finger at us. "You two have got yourselves in quite the situation huh?" She questioned us. "Bet after you made your little announcement you didn't get a word in edgewise," she stopped, taking the drink from Lee and taking a sip.
"I don't want an abortion," I blurted.
"Oh that's out of the question regardless of what you want, but it does help that you agree," Aretolla said causing me to become very uneasy.
"It's her body," Monroe spoke up. "And she can do with it what she pleases." I have him a small smile. Looked around at our parents, sitting in various places in our living room.
"You know what? I'm done. Yes we're young and we made a mistake, but I'm done apologizing for it. And I'm we're both old enough to make decisions so here it goes: we're gonna keep the baby, stay in school and get jobs. I love Monroe, he loves me, and we'll love this baby," I smile triumphantly as Monroe squeezed my side.
I'm glad we can all agree on this, we'll iron out details later, you two go on upstairs while we finish talking," Naedal said.
"Should they really be upstairs alone Naedal," Lee asked.
"Oh hush Lee, she's already pregnant what harm could it do now," Aretolla said chuckling.
