Chapter 20

Maddy's POV (Yep, I'm making her a main character. Ps: This is right after she left the moon pool.)

There are land people with tails? The thought still bewildered me.

I know they explained it to me and everything, but I didn't think it was possible. I didn't know that the moon pool had that kind of power. I, of course, knew it was powerful, all mermaids do. It's one of the first things they teach us in mermaid school. They tell us about what it can do, They never mentioned that it had the power to turn land people into mermaids. Either they didn't know it was possible or I've been lied to my entire life. I reached my family's cave and swam in.

"Hi, Maddy. Where have you been?" My mom questioned.

"Just with a few friends."

"Who?"

"Diana, Sarah, Max, and Alyssa. You wouldn't know them, they're new."

"What pod did they come from?"

"They're not from a pod."

"Lone mermaids? How is that possible?"

"They're only mermaids part time."

"What?! They're land people?!"

"Yeah. Well, three of them are."

"Then what pod is the fourth one from?"

"You remember the long lost daughter of Hadley?"

"You're friends with her?"

"Yeah. She's got a tail."

"How? Didn't Hadley put a spell on her so she wouldn't get a tail?"

"She did, but it was broken when she was in the moon pool on a full moon."

"What about the boy?"

"I met him too. He has a tail."

"The most powerful mermaid's son is a merman?! This isn't good."

"How bad could this be?"

"Really bad. He has powers that even the elders don't know about. We haven't seen a merman from the family line in centuries. They've always had girls and if they had a boy, he was put on land to make sure he didn't get those powers. When we found out that it was a set of twins, we didn't worry about it because we knew that they'd both have to be merpeople together for him to unlock that power. I guess that we need to start worrying again. You said both Alyssa and Dalton have tails?"

"Yeah."

"Do they know that they're twins and who their real mom is?"

"I kind of told Alyssa and she told Dalton. They found Hadley and she confirmed it. They know everything."

"Do they know the power they possess?"

"If they don't, Hadley will tell them. I know that they won't abuse that power."

"How do you know? You've known them for less than a day!" My mom threw her hands in the air.

"I trust them! Hadley wouldn't have told them anything if she didn't trust them! Don't you think that the most powerful mermaid knows who to trust and who not to trust?!"

"Anyone's judgement can be clouded by their children! Especially if they finally found them after sixteen years!"

"Almost sixteen."

"Don't you dare correct me!"

"Sorry."

"Those two can destroy the mermaid world if they misuse their powers."
