Yang rapped her fingers on her bike handle. Ruby was supposed to be out ten minutes ago. She pulled out her phone and typed, "Where r u sis? Burning precious fuel here." She had to wait a few moments before getting a reply. "Sorry, got held up by my gym coach. Be there soon." Yang sighed in relief and pulled out her little sister's red motorcycle helmet. She'd insisted on decorating it with a diversity of rose stickers that always turned heads at a stop light.
After what seemed to the impatient blond as forever, she caught the distinct figure of Ruby coming into view. She was walking with Penny and a few other people she didn't recognize. Aw, little Rubes is already making friends. If any of them tries anything, I'll squish 'em like a bug. She put on her best "badass sister" expression and revved up the engine. The group looked at her, and she and Ruby met eyes. Yang winked from behind her aviators. She could tell her sister was groaning from thirty feet away.
"Hey sis, who're your new friends?" "Just some people I know," Ruby muttered as she grabbed her helmet. A pretty redhead with green eye shadow stepped forward. "You're Ruby's sister Yang, right? I'm Pyrrha. Pleasure to meet you." Yang smiled back. "Same to you, Pyrrha." "Oh, oh, and I'm Jaune!" "Y...ou too, Jaune," Yang said hesitantly. Another, more fashionable brunette casually lifted her hand. "I'm Coco, and my partner here is Velvet." "P-Partner?" The rabbit Faunus couldn't have blushed redder. "Nice to meetcha. You got good taste," Yang replied while gesturing to Coco's designer shades. "Thanks."
"Can we go now?" Ruby whispered through gritted teeth after she put on her helmet. "No. I have yet to get a 'hello' from her." Yang refused to leave without having miss prissy in the corner smiling at her instead of giving her a snark look through parted white bangs. "It's none of your business who I am." "This is Weiss, isn't it?" Yang laughed at her surprised expression. "Yep. Ruby t-ow!" She was cut off by a discreet stab to the side by her little sister's hand. "Thinks we should go now," Ruby finished. She jumped onto the bike.
Yang got the message. "Fine, see you kids later!" They sped off, leaving Weiss to wonder what the blond was about to say.

"Damn, she's cute!" Yang commented as she hung up her helmet in the garage. "I can see why you're so into her." "That's another one for the swear jar," Ruby grumbled. "And I don't fall head-over-heels for someone I just met!" "Sorry, sis," Yang replied knowingly. "I shouldn't be jumping to conclusions. But you sure have mentioned her a lot this week." Ruby sighed. "I think that's your imagination," she lied and went inside."I ship it anyways!"

Why did I agree with this? Ruby tapped her index finger nervously on her desk. Yang had somehow coaxed her into thinking it was a good idea to ask Weiss for a pencil. "I heard it's a common crush trigger," she'd teased.
Due to reasons unknown by the brunette, Ice Queen had been transferred into her math class the day before. At least it gave Ruby a reason to talk to her. She didn't totally feel like she was being glared at the entire time. The bell rang. Weiss took the only empty seat in the classroom, which happened to be right behind Ruby. It was now or never.
Ruby got out her folder and ran the scenario through her mind a couple of times. Each time seemed worse than the first, and in a nervous wreck she decided it would be never. It was a stupid idea, anyways. She reached back into her backpack for her pencil pouch. Oh no. Of all the days she could've done it, she'd left it at home. She wouldn't be surprised if the girl behind her could feel the increasing pulse of her heartbeat. She turned around. "w...Weiss,?" she whispered hesitantly. The heiress snapped back, "What?" "I uh...Is there any chance you could lend me something to write with? I forgot-"
"Never in my life have I met a dunce as hopeless as you," Weiss muttered through gritted teeth and tossed the pen in her hand. It hit Ruby in the nose with a satisfying thunk and dropped into her outstretched hand. "Thanks." was all Ruby could say after she winced in a combination of pain, shock, and humiliation.
She turned back to her work before attracting the attention of Professor Goodwitch and looked at the pen in her hand. Weiss probably touches this pen all the time. The rest of class went by without another thought.
Besides having to use that pen for the rest of the day, Ruby didn't want to let go of it. That little pen made her feel like the object of her affection at least cared enough to help her. She knew it was childish, but it was true.
"What's with that pen?" Pyrrha asked after history class. "You've been twirling it around all day." "It's-" "Hey, wait a minute..." She lightly plucked the pen from Ruby's hand and examined it. Along the side was property of Weiss Schnee. Pyrrha laughed. "She's still labeling her writing utensils?" Pyrrha turned the pen back over to Ruby. "You should probably give this back to her soon. Weiss can be a bit...possessive of her materials. She'd probably throw a fit if she realized she had a pen missing." Ruby giggled. "That's what lunch is for, I guess!"
"It's just a pen. Why don't you keep it?" was Weiss' reaction. Both Ruby and Pyrrha were surprised.
That night, Ruby Rose went to bed with a pen labeled property of Weiss Schnee next to her alarm clock.
AN: thanks for voting some of the past chapters guys, it makes me feel rly special. Ik I'm kinda shaky when it comes to chapter transitions but bear with me! I'm also thinking of getting an editor (just anyone who wants to) to go over my writing before I publish so I can minimize mistakes. If that's your thing, let me know!
