"Ruby, you were acting very unusual," Penny commented while she watched Weiss' father take her away in what Ruby had dubbed the Schnee-borghini. Anyone could tell whose car it was by the giant snowflake sticker on the back window.

The windows were tinted, so she couldn't see what Mr. Schnee looked like or what her (sort-of-maybe) friend was doing inside, but it didn't matter. Besides, if everything went according to plan, she'd meet him soon enough.

"Like how?" the little brunette responded nervously, watching the spotlessly white car round a corner and disappear from view.

"You either talked a lot at once or not at all," Penny explained. "You are usually very social."

"Psh, me?" Ruby waved her hand dismissively. "It had to be your imagination. I was totally fine."

That was a huge lie, and both of them knew it. But before Penny could press her further...

"'Sup, fam?" Yang screeched up in Bumblebee and lifted up her aviators.

"Hello, Yang!" Penny waved.

Yang casually lifted her hand in response. "You ready to go, sis?"

"Well, actually, Penny might need a ride home," Ruby added. "Is there any way to squeeze her on?"

"Not without breaking the law..." her older sister hummed. "Well, what're you two waiting for? Let's blow this joint!"

Poor Penny clung to Ruby for dear life the entire ride home, their backpacks hung on opposite sides of the bike to help balance it. Yang was struggling a little to remain upright, but years of punching stuff left her barely breaking a sweat. Several cars honked as the three whizzed by and drifted around corners. All the while, Yang was laughing like the maniac she was.

They finally slowed down to a pedestrian zone pace when the bike pulled into Penny's neighborhood. "It's the red brick house on the left, right?" Yang called back.

Penny nodded, a bit too frazzled from the ride to speak. They slowed to a halt in front of a nice little suburban home, and Penny all but fell off the bike. Ruby helped her maintain her balance, as the brunette was the only person in the world that could handle her sister's driving. Trips with Ruby and family were usually traveled via Uncle Qrow's silver Scion, so poor Penny certainly wasn't accustomed to this.

"Here you go." Ruby handed Penny her backpack and kept a hand on her shoulder to make sure the ginger could stay upright on her own.

"Thank you very much for the ride home, but I may take the bus next time," her best friend admitted faintly.

Yang crossed her arms. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"C'mon sis, you know Penny isn't a thrill-seeker like you," Ruby teased. The three laughed together.

Ruby stared at her math homework, contemplating why her heart was beating faster than usual at the coffee hangout. Maybe it was the sugar?
But she always went heavy on it. A couple (or maybe ten) packets in her mocha never made her that much more hyper than she already was. And plus, she'd overcome her hesitation and asked Weiss out. Well, it wasn't a date. They'd just met and all, plus the heiress was totally clueless as to the younger girl's intentions. Perhaps the little brunette was simply excited about her success. She smiled to herself.

"So, you never told me how your date went." Ruby jumped, not realizing her sister had lodged herself in the doorframe.

"For the last time, it wasn't a date," Ruby groaned as she spun around.

"Oh, but didn't you have fun?" Yang asked.

"Sorta," Ruby admitted. "Pyrrha helped me work up the courage, and she came to the cafe with us and Penny, so it made things a bit easier."

"You think Pyrrha likes you?" Yang inquired. Ruby laughed. "No way! She totally has a thing for that guy named Jaune. She can't stop gaping at him every time he looks away."

"Didn't think she'd swing that way, but I had to be sure," Yang admitted. "She's pretty cute, though."

"Yang, do you have to hit on all my friends?" Ruby teased.

"Until I meet my match," Yang replied determinedly.

All she got was a disapproving look from her little sister. She'd learn, Yang assured herself.

For the rest of that week, Ruby found herself scouring the halls for just a glimpse of the ivory-haired girl passing by. She never forgot to bring that special little pen wherever she went. She was forced to come up with the excuse, "You never know when you might need something to write with."

All of her new companions but Weiss quickly caught on to the brunette's subtle actions. However, no one ever asked her questions regarding the heiress, as the brunette would deflect any attempts and morph the conversation into another topic entirely. The only one who truly knew what was going on inside Ruby's little head was Ruby.

A week after the "date" at Crescent Cafe, Ruby pushed her way through the glass double doors and towards Yang's yellow motorcycle. Uncle Qrow had left on a business trip and wouldn't be back in couple weeks, so the half-sisters were stuck with each other. Not that either of them minded. They already enjoyed each other's company more than that of anyone else.

Ruby looked closer at her sister. She was talking to someone, and not just anyone. Her heart skipped a beat. Why is she talking to Weiss? I specifically told her to leave her alone. But who's that next to her?

Yang was looking at another girl, who seemed to be Weiss' exact opposite. She wore all black, her outfit consisting of a leather vest, crop top, and skinny jeans with a spiky bracelet and way too many belts. Her gothic appearance was interrupted by a neat black bow tied to the top of her head. The way her sister was eyeing this chick in black made Ruby want to gag.

"See you around!" Yang chirped as the girls walked away and Ruby approached. The blond looked over at her little sister and relaxed a little in her seat. "That was Weiss' older cousin, Blake."

"Cousin?!" Ruby almost choked. The difference between Blake and Weiss couldn't be clearer than night and day, even at a distance.

Yang laughed. "Yeah, I was surprised, too. But she's really nice, unlike her snobby relative. I'm still not sure what you see in Weiss."

Ruby felt her face flush. "What did we talk about a while ago?"

"About how you have a lot to learn in terms of picking a significant other," Yang snickered. Ruby hopped on the bike and grumbled, "Let's just go."

"You know, Blake could help you get closer to Weiss," Yang suggested before her beloved Bumblebee burned rubber.

AN: thanks for keeping up! The entrance of Blake will pick up the pace of the story, so stay up-to-date or just wait a few weeks and binge read. Whichever you prefer.
