Kassidy Hading loves nature and animals, in fact she loves nature so much that she can sit in the woods for hours and talk to the "sky". Her 9th birthday is tomorrow and she is having a nature themed party. Kassidy is very excited. That evening Kassidy thought that the sooner she went to bed the sooner she could wake up and have her party, so at 6:38 P.M.she asked her mom if she could tuck her in so she could go to sleep. Uh-oh Kassidy thought, did I just call her "mom"... and not mother? Kassidy's mother turned around from her chair on the porch and screamed, " NEVER CALL ME THAT AGAIN!". Kassidy ran to her room in tears, she thought that if she made mother mad enough she would do the "thing" again. She did not want the party to get cancelled either, because the thing normally lasts 12 to 19 hours. Kassidy just hated thinking about what mother would do to her if she called her mom again. Just then Kassidy heard banging and scratching at the door. She was petrified. "Oh no... ",Kassidy said"The thing has started."
