Honestly, people surprise me sometimes.
And not at all for the right reasons.
Stars can't shine without darkness, right? If the universe suddenly exploded in light, would it really matter which star is shining brightest when there's nothing but light?I really hope you said no.
But it's not like you can actually see stars in space, anyway. It's a vacuum, so the light doesn't travel. On Earth, the atmosphere, and the gases in it alone, let us see the stars rather than a black expansion of nothingness.Excuse my nerdy-ness, but it's the best metaphor I could come up with to explain the social system of high school.
The most popular girl at school, Stephanie, is like those stars that can only be seen from earth. Outside of our little town of Greenwood, no one really knows her. No one really cares who she was texting last night or what she did at that senior's party, so it's almost like the smallness of our town allows everyone to see her as an important, independent star shining brighter than the rest. What if I was to suddenly become something worth people looking at and caring about? It's not like it's gonna happen, and neither is the universe exploding in light, but the what-ifs are there and so are my thoughts about the implications that follow.
I've read that they're starting to organize colonies on Mars. Pass the sign up sheet to the back, please.
