Last night was nice. Jaime had decided a few weeks ago that he would stay over to take me to my eight AM flight back home and it felt as if we had known each other much longer than we had. I've always heard people say that their partner's arms felt like home and never understood it until I met Jaime. His presence was like a safety net. While I had been going to see a therapist weekly, I haven't had any major attacks since moving here. I felt like a whole different person after moving here and it makes me hopeful that my severe attacks are finally behind me.
I was wide awake at four AM making some food for the two of us before we had to go. I was always the person to be awake far before the time I had to leave. I wanted enough time to get ready and make sure things were the way they needed to be before leaving. I could hear groggy calls from my bed as I was just finishing up the food. I was already dressed; sweatpants and my California hoodie. I brought our plates in and Jaime peeked out of one of his eyes.
"Come on, might as well wake up for some delicious breakfast before you take a shower." I said softly and slid the food closer to him to which he responded in sitting up to get at it.
"A girl that has brains, wit, cooking skills, a great personality and is beautiful; How did I manage to snag you?" He said with a mouthful of my infamous scrambled eggs. I never liked eggs but I always made them for my brother.
"A guys with a sense of humor, is a sweetheart, loves my cooking and isn't dimwitted; How did I get so lucky?" I replied back in similar taste.
"I hate that you're leaving for the holidays." He sighed and I shrugged.
"I gotta see the fam some time." I chuckled but I was honestly dreading going back. I loved my family and missed my mom and brother but things got crazy during the holiday season. I planned on seeing a few friends while I was there and they are some nosey motherfuckers so I'll no doubt be explaining some things. It was definitely going to be an overwhelming two weeks.
"Maybe one day I'll get to meet them." He smiled but blushed. I could tell he was the kind of guy that thought about the future and I was a little shocked that it seemed to include me. I never thought of myself as the 'wifey' type but the more I was around Jaime and the more he hinted towards the future, the more the idea swirled in my head.
I took the dishes to wash while Jaime got ready. I had one last cup of coffee and did a quick sweep of the house to make sure everything was alright before leaving. I unplugged almost everything besides my clocks just because I was paranoid about fires starting while I wasn't there.
I made sure my electronics were packed safely and dragged my bags out and waited for Jaime to finish up. I flicked through my Tumblr feed and since having the thing since I was in my early teens, I always had pictures of the boys popping up and it always entertained me as well as blast from the past pictures. Now that my name is getting more well known, I've gotten fan arts of people replicating my pictures and making them their own. It was always awesome to see how creative these people could get.
Jaime and I haven't posted anything about us on social media but we had talked about doing something about that during the new year. New Year; New Start.
"You ready babe?" He asked coming out and towel drying his curly hair.
"You better put on a hat." I said and he rolled his eyes.
"Ok, mom" I chuckled and he walked back towards the drawer. Somehow some of his stuff had migrated to my apartment. I had never seen him bring stuff here but I was okay with it.
He came back out, grabbed my two bags and we left my apartment. We were taking my car to the airport just because it was simple to bring it back and for him to go home.
The drive was quiet, a thick haze of emotions filling the space within the car getting bigger as we got closer to our destination.
We pulled into the slightly empty parking garage and sat in the car for a moment before both sighing and stepping out. The two hour drive was exhausting at six in the morning.
The mood got lighter once we had a bit more coffee in our systems, just sitting by the check in, waiting for my flight to be called.
"I wish I was going with you." He said sadly.
"I wish you were too." I replied with just as much sadness.
We stayed quiet for a while, we laughed at the police reports in a newspaper we found and tried to keep our spirits high but it was one of those bittersweet times; knowing your loved one is leaving for a while but knowing they'll be back soon.
FLIGHT 204 TO CONNECTICUT IS NOW BOARDING
I sighed and grabbed my carry-on. We both stood up, both dreading this part.
The mood switch from bittersweet to straight somber. I was tearing up for the pure fact that most of my days consisted of being with him and our friends and now I had to go back to the place I left for good reason; the place that gave me the problems I have today.
"I guess I'll see you when you come back." he said holding back his emotions and I nodded. I gave him one last kiss and tight hug before starting off towards my gate and half way there, I heard my name being called.
"Hey! Check your bag when you get on the plane!" He said with a bright smile and I smiled slightly and blew him a kiss. That sneaky little devil.
I boarded the plane and got myself settled. I had to wait a few minutes after take-off to open up my bag. I found a small velvet bag with a box inside along with a folded piece of paper.
I unfolded the paper and it read;
For the girl that will always be protected
For the girl with blue eyes that only see the good
For the girl who has no filter
For the girl who has been broken
For the girl I promise to fix
For the girl whose smile can light a candle
For the girl who makes me nervous
For the girl I love and care for.
I opened the box and it revealed a ring. A ring that was dainty and beautiful and it was attached to a chain. It had a vintage look to it and it made me smile. I quickly put in on and snapped a picture before sending it to my thoughtful boyfriend.
For the rest of the flight I had a smile glued to my face.
That is, until I landed.
