The three cat sisters, always bickering, walk along the street. Their names were Carol, Caroline, and Carolina.
"Do you hear that?" Caroline puffed up in fear.
"Hear what?" Carol meowed. "I don't hear a thing other than this annoying rain! Ugh, I hate getting my fur wet."
"I like the rain," Carolina said as she rolled onto her back. "Now, tell us what you hear Caroline."
"Well... It sounds like an animal in pain." said Caroline quietly.
Just beyond the pitter patter of the rain the sisters could her a faint wimper.
"I think it's coming from over there," Caroline gestured toward a fence with her head.
"Do you really want to go there?" complained Carol. "It sounds like a dog. He'll eat us whole if he gets the chance! We are looking for lunch, not to be lunch."
"Maybe they know where we could hunt," Carolina screamed as she bounded towards the fence.
"I guess they might have a home that will be willing to take us in or atleast feed us. It would be nice to have a safe place to sle- No. We can't risk it." Carol said sternly.
Caroline followed Carolina.
"You two are such kittens!" screamed Carol as she ran after her sisters.
"Woah!" Caroline said as she abruptly stopped running. "That's a steep fall." She layed on her stomach and peeked into the ditch. Her hair was standing on end.
"Geromimo!" Carolina slid down the mud sides of the ditch. "That was fun! Come down here! What? Are you two scaredy cats?"
"I- I'm not scared!" Caroline said as she stood up, but once she looked into the ditch she back away in fear.
"What's down there!" said Carol as she treaded lightly down the path that Carolina made with her body. "This is so dirty!" She lost her footing and started to slide down the mud. "Ew!" She slammed into Carolina. "If we get out of here then I'm am going to have to bathe in the pond."
"A- a- are you two okay? Should I come down too?"
"Don't be scared kitten. Uou will only get a little dirty. That is all," Carol screamed up to Caroline.
Caroline slid down the path screaming.
"Was it that bad?" Carolina asked Caroline. Caroline shivered.
They heard a dog howl and walked toward the sound. They then saw a golden retriever covered with mud.
"Ah, black cats! Now I'm going to have bad luck. There are three of you! How many years is that?"
"Fifteen," said Caroline staring at the dog.
"That's just a myth," Carol yowled.
"Why are you down here?" Carolina said as she glared evily at the dog.
"I could say the same to you three." barked the dog. "I chased a squirrel under a fence. Then, I slipped on the mud. Now, I'm stuck down here until the rain stops and this mud dries up. Why are you bad omens down here?"
"W- well I heard you whimpering, so I convinced my sisters to come down here with me. I- I'm Caroline. That's Carol, and the one climbing the tree is Carolina."
"Those names are... original. I'm Reggy. Do you know how to get out of here?"
"Did you say that you chased a squirrel?" Carol sighs. "Classic mutt."
"I'll have you know that I'm a pure bred golden retriever, not a mutt."
"I got lunch, and the way out is over there." Carolina drops two quails out of her mouth and looks at makeshift steps made by rocks. "Lets go." She goes and sits on the first rock.
Once the four animals safely leave the ditch the cats start ripping apart the birds. Devouring them like they were big cats eating an antelope.
"I'm gonna go home now if that's fine with you guys."
"Wait!" The three cats screamed as they turned to look at the dog.
"What do you kittens want?"
"Can we come home with you?" Carolina said.
"Just follow me, and leave the birds. First, lets go wash up in the lake you mentioned earlier."
"Follow me!" Carol perked up and started walking towards the woods.
When they reached the lake they started washing their fur in the water. Reggy looked golden instead of brown, and the cats were puffy and black instead of matted, black, and brown.
"You kittens look cute now that your not dirty."
"Thankyou" Carol, Carolina, and Caroline said in unison.
"You look like your breed now, mutt," Carol teased.
"Lets go kittens," Reggie stepped out of the lake and shook out his fur.
"The sky is starting to clear up," Caroline said quietly as she followed Reggie. "You are going to eat us whole. Are you?"
"Why would I do that?" Reggie tilted his head.
"Well Carol said that dogs eat c-" Carol interupted Caroline.
"She's just a kitten. She doesn't know what she's talking about."
"But you said-"
"Stop talking Carolina."
"Are we there yet!" Carolina yawned.
"No," Reggie barked.
Reggie scratches at the front door of a brown house. The door opens.
"There you are Reggie" says a tall woman with short, light brown hair.
Reggie barks. The cats meow just to be noticed.
"Oh, and you brought friends."
"Mommy!" A little girl runs up to the door. "Oh my god! Look at the cats and Reggie is back!" she kneels down and hugs Reggie. The sisters back away a little because they were startled.
"Calm down, your scaring the poor things." The woman picks them up one by one and puts them on the rug. Reggie walks into the house and sits next to the cats.
"Mommy look, they have collars."
"Mom, I spilt my jui- Kittens!"
From that day on the sisters had a warm place to sleep which was right next to Reggie. Their bellies were always full, and they were played with everyday. Whe they go outside Reggie protects them from anything that dares to touch them. Caroline sleeps with the girl, Carolina sleeps with the boy, and Carol sleeps with the mother. Most of the time they cuddle up with Reggie inside his dog bed. The only thing that hasn't changed is the fact that they always bicker. When they do that Reggie sits back and laughs.
