He started the engine and backed out of the driveway. As we drove away, I looked into the rear view mirror. I noticed that we left the living room light on. My heart stopped when the light went off.

The door opened and out walked someone in black hoodie. They took off their hood. Sonic stood on the porch, smiling at the car as we drove even farther away. If we would've stayed any longer, he would've killed us all.

The mind really does crazy things.

"He was in the house."

Shadow glanced away from the road to look at me. "What?"he asked. "He was in the house by the time we had gotten into the car,"I said. "How do you know?"Shadow asked. "I saw him in the rear view mirror,"I said. "Crap,"Shadow mumbled.

"Who was in the house, Mommy?"I heard Haze ask. I looked back him and smiled. "No one, honey. Daddy and I were talking about something we...saw on t.v.,"I said. Haze looked confused but bought it anyway.

Maria was looking out the window while hugging her teddy bear. "Maria, are you alright?"I asked. She looked away from the window and at me. "Yeah. I'm okay. I'm just hungry,"she said. "Me too,"Haze said.

Shit. I forgot to get the kids something to eat.

"It's alright. Aunt Rouge will have something to eat. We'll be there in a minute,"Shadow said. "She knows that we're coming right?"I whispered. Shadow nodded. "I called her while I was getting the kids together,"he whispered back. I nodded.

I can't believe this is happening again. I wish Sonic would just leave the kids out of this. They don't need to be in this at such a young age. Or at any age really.

When we finally made it to Rouge's house, Shadow and I let the kids in the house first while we got our bags out the car. We walked inside with the bags. Rouge was waiting for us at the door. Her belly is bigger than the last time I saw her, which was only a few weeks ago.

She smiled and hugged me. "I've missed you,"she said. I smiled and looked at her belly. "She's getting bigger,"I said with a smile. Rouge chuckled and rubbed her belly. "She sure is,"she smiled.

Shadow placed a hand on my shoulder. "I'm going to call GUN now,"Shadow said. He turned to Rouge. "Are your lines secure?"he asked her. She nodded. He walked off.

"Oh, the kids are in the dining room. Knuckles is with them,"Rouge said. We made our way to the dining room. Maria and Haze sat at the table, asking Knuckles various questions. Surprisingly, he still had his patients and answered them calmly.

I smiled. "He's going to make a great father,"I told Rouge. She smiled. "I know. I remember how excited he was when I told him,"she said.

"Rouge, if we go into hiding, how long would we stay gone?"I asked. She shrugged. "It depends on how long it takes to catch Sonic. He may be a psychopath but his intelligence somehow spiked over the years or so I've been told,"she said.

"So you're telling me...that I'd probably miss her being born?"I asked. Rouge nodded, her eyes watering. "Yes, you most likely would,"she sniffled. My eyes began to water. I pulled her into a gentle embrace. "I'm sorry,"I whispered.

"It's not your fault, sweetie. I just wish it didn't have to be this way,"Rouge said as she pulled away. "Me too,"I said. Rouge and I walked into the living room, where Shadow was on the phone.
