Day-Dream Disaster
We sat down in a booth and wait for a waitress to come and take our orders. I'm not sure why Dad brought me to a human café. He wants to have a conversation about my Alpha training duties, but why be so hush-hush about it? Everyone knows that I'm going to become Alpha. What's the point of hiding it?
Anyway, we wait for a couple of minutes before Dad ignites the conversation.
'So, Eli. You have not yet found a mate?' he asks. Humans walk in and out of the café, and it gradually gets louder.
'No Dad, how many times do I have to tell you? You've asked me every day since I turned eighteen. Seriously, as soon as I find her, you'll be the second to know,' I assure him. He raises his eyebrows.
'The second?'
'Well, yer. I'll be the first obviously,' I shrug. He rolls his eyes and sighs.
'Alright well, you begin training tomorrow,' he tells me. I slump in my seat and groan.
'Dad, like, seriously: why can't I do it a couple of months before you hand the role down to me?'
'Because there's a lot more to being Alpha then you think,' he tells me. I roll my eyes and groan again.
'Dad like, come on. I'm nearly nineteen, I have other things to focus on,' I shrug.
'What like playing footie with your mates? Do you think this is a joke?' he snaps.
'No I don't I just,' I sigh in frustration running a hand through my hair. 'I just don't see the point of me rushing into this.'
'Look son, I know this is a massive jump, but you're not a pup any more. You've told your mother and me yourself more than a few dozen times. It's time to grow up: it's time to become Alpha.'
The last part made me flinch. Alpha. What if I don't want to become Alpha? I'm happy being free; being young; being careless! And Dad wants me to become... Alpha? I don't want to have to make decisions and go to meeting after meeting after meeting with other Alphas in other packs. I want to have a family, grow up, grow old with my mate; have kids, watch them grow. I won't be able to do that while being Alpha, I can feel it.
Dad sighs and shakes his head.
'Are you hungry?' he asks me. I shrug, not really caring. Dad calls someone over before standing up. 'I have to go to the bathroom. Just order your food and I'll order mine when I get back.'
He walks off towards the restrooms and I sit there bored.
'Hi what can I get you?' a soft voice asks. I look up and I'm gob smacked. The girl has shoulder-length hair the colour of warm caramel and a long fringe that jutted out in wispy strands. Thin dark eyebrows highlight a soft face that's sun-browned and natural beautiful without the cosmetic junk other girls wear. Her figure is shapely, but no artificial. She has nice hips, small breasts and great legs. And a V-neck T-shirt floated around the skinny jeans that she wears and a small pendant hanging off the necklace she wears. Her warm green eyes meet mine and I have to blink a few times to bring myself back to reality.
'U-uh, a steak burger, please,' I say. She nods and smiles, a dimple showing in her left cheek.
'Would you like chips or salad with that?'
'Let's go with chips,' I shrug. She giggles, the dimple showing again, as she scribbles it on her notepad.
'That all?' she asks, looking back up at me again.
