《《Prologue》》
《《Holly Madison's P.O.V》》
My mother stared at my bruise on my arm. Hopefully, she won't see the cuts if she looked too close. Things never go good for me, but then again, she never saw them there before. I would wear long sleeves all the time so, it was kinda impossible. Why did I have to roll up my sleeves?"Holly, start talking or I'll stop sending you to school." My mother threatened.
Well, I can't say threatened. I actually hate school. High school is a nightmare. No matter how many movies I watch, I still can't make high school seem any better for me. My sister, Brooklyn, and every other person in school are my bullies. I've dealt with bullying for nine years, but it feels all the same.
"Holly Elize Madison, I'm not going to repeat myself one more time. Tell me what happened or I'll go to the school myself." My mother's voice became more harsh.
I looked down at my old converse. I looked up as soon as I heard footsteps coming from the stairs.
"Honey, do you know where the drill is?" My father looked under the kitchen sink. When he looked up, he met my eyes with a pleading look on his face.
He sighed. He's probably thinking of sending me to a boarding school somewhere else, again.
"What happened now, Holly?" My father asked, frustrated.
There it goes. The moment where he tries to break me. I can't keep this up, but I promised I wouldn't tell. I promised. And I, Holly Elize Madison, never broke a promise. Never.
My parents sighed, knowing I wouldn't talk. I haven't told them where the bruises, scrapes, cuts, scars, and blood have come from. Why would I now?
"Holly, let me ask you something." My father stepped closer to me. "Is something happening at school?"
I shook my head no.
"Then, can you explain why you come home everyday with bruises, cuts, scrapes, and scars all over your body?" His voice became louder.
I shook my head, again.
"Go to your room, Holly." My mother said quietly.
I nodded and put my head down. I looked at my feet as they dragged up the stairs.
"What's wrong with you? I told you to not raise your voice at her anymore!" My mother shouted quietly.
Her voice was hushed. Quiet. Low.
She didn't want me to hear, but I did. Again.
"It's not my fault that she can't stand up for herself! For God's sake, she's being bullied! Get that threw your head! If she doesn't tell us who it's been all these years, she's gonna get real hurt, someday!" My father shouted back quietly.
He knew.
That's when I've decided I've heard enough. I continued to walk upstairs to my room. When I got in front of my door, my sister was waiting for me. Kill me now.
"If you tell them, your in deep trouble. Do you hear me?" My sister, Brooklyn's, voice was harsh.
"Yeah, I know. I've heard you and everyone else. I'm not stupid, Brooklyn. I know what I'm doing. I'm not gonna tell. You've made it pretty clear that if I tell anyone, you'd make sure something bad would happen to me." I replied.
She rolled her eyes at me and walked back to her room.
I opened my door, kicked off my shoes, and closed the door. I took off my jacket and backpack, opened my closet and got my ballet bag.
I've been in ballet since I was three. And yes, you can be in ballet when you are that little. So technically, I've been in ballet for fourteen years.
I think I'm pretty talented, but I've never told my parents. My grandmother was in ballet when she was little. That's why I don't tell anyone I'm still in ballet. If I told them, or even mentioned a recital to them, they'd probably cry. My grandmother was a special person to me. She was successful, passionate, kind, caring, and she was my inspiration.
I've always wanted to be a ballerina like her. She passed away when I was five. Gramps followed three years later.
But enough will the sad stuff. Main topic is I can't tell anyone I'm still in ballet. I was supposed to quit twelve years ago. My parents thought that I'd be good in taking singing lessons or piano lessons. And I do. Well, piano lessons, not singing lessons. My life was basically planned out for me.
My sister killed to be adored when we were smaller. She's only a year older, but that doesn't change anything. Gram and Gramps spoiled me. Mom and dad spoiled Brooklyn. Sure, I was jealous sometimes but not as much as her. So when Gram and Gramps passed, I was stuck with mom, dad, and Brooklyn. There's nothing wrong with them, I've just never been close to any of them.
That's part of my childhood story, the rest will spill out later.
Now, comes the next part. Lying to my parents about where I go every day.
I tucked my ballet shoes, and my outfit into my backpack. I put on some black flats, a black skirt, a white crop top, and my 'nerd' glasses. This is different from my usual 'nerd' look. I am a preppy little girl outside. But at school, I like to hide in the background. It's better for everyone. It's better for Brooklyn, too. She gets the fame she deserves.
I threw my hair into a high ponytail, grabbed my bag, jacket, and walked down stairs.
"Mom, I'm going to piano lessons!" I screamed as I headed towards the front door.
"Okay. Be safe, sweetie!" My mother shouted back.
"Bye. I love you!" I opened the door.
No response.
I sighed and shut the door behind me.
I pulled my phone out, put my ear buds in, and started my path to the dance studio.
